What motivates people to be part of mafia and cartels etc?

Mostly the greed and feeling control to get big money faster than salary from the losers (me) who earn hourly wages... but...

The con side is cops? So they pay off police or threaten cops using their threats of violence.

But god might punish me? Those who promote #atheism motivate crime directly partner.

Why wouldn't want to be in Mafia? Mafia are highly loyal and treat each other as family.
Cartels not so much so yeah they suck, typically cartels are more ran through fear from the few on top who use methods of control to keep everyone in check. Rather than treating everyone within with respect.
Mafia even shows respect to those just doing average non-criminal jobs for them while I am sure the Cartel would ready to kill them just to send a message.

There can be betrayals, but it's less common than you think. Shows are meant to over drama it and make it look like there is always backstabs or they take a case that's famous and spoke about rather than all those that aren't.
Think about it how can a Mafia be ran on respect and family if everyone is always betraying? It can't. In most cases everyone in a Mafia was looked after, and had no reason to betray and have a comfortable life doing what they do.
There is always that 1 dude who wanted to be on top and didn't care who he hurt truly a psychopath but everyone else was quite happy with the benefits they got and didn't feel no threat been part of their Mafia.

A combination of many things. Similar to why young men join gangs is because they lack good support systems & yet strive for power, community, wealth etc.

in many films so people like you would think it was a documentary!
Plenty of families have a mother support but join gangs. Some with fathers join gangs.
They are not looking for a "support group" by joining a gang!

@strateguy632 You'd be surprised. But the community aspect is a large part of it. Ideology is a way of life at the core definition of the word. Everyone seeks strong ideology or beliefs to keep them interested & motivated in life. The range is broad & goes more based on personal feelings of connection & support rather than objective patterns like having a mother of father. Someone could have a mother & a father but feel a lacking. But it depends on the person ofc.
