For those of you against abortion at any cost , think of this. The military doesn’t endorse abortion for ANY reason at all. I know someone who worked in an OB/GYN clinic at a military hospital. Mom was very pregnant, but for some reason, the baby had died in the womb. She still has to return for OB appts and sit in a room full of chattering excited expectant moms. How would you like to be the woman carrying a dead baby? She isn’t allowed to terminate and is forced to carry that child for another couple of months until her due date. What if that was your child? Talk about cruel and unusual punishment - there is a gray area here for sure.

So in the event of a miscarriage, the child is already dead. The dead should be put to rest, not carried around like a necromancer. I also believe in the event that there is a serious risk to the woman's life she has the right to defend herself and preserve her right to life. She don't have the obligation, she can choose to risk self sacrifice for her child and believe she will survive, but she wouldn't be wrong to preserve her own life if it was on the line. Other than that I don't really believe abortion is justifiable. While certain births might be undesirable, as in a predicted birth defect or elevated risk of genetic disease due to some horrible situation like incest, the kid didn't do anything wrong so murdering him or her isn't just, and you can't be 100% positive how that will effect the child or that a cure in modern medicine isn't right around the corner. That said, don't rape people, get involved in incest, and take care of yourself and your baby when you are pregnant to reduce poor outcomes. If you lead a good life, many of those one off situations aren't realistic concerns and if you use contraceptives you for the most part have very high levels of control over your reproductive system.

That’s not even abortion, the fetus is already dead and they were just leaving it in the womb which is stupid and and maybe dangerous for the mother when they can induce labor with drugs to release it. I'm the complete opposite. Women should get to have the decision if she wants an abortion or not. The reason why isn't anyone else's business. I can understand in cases where maybe the baby has already formed and people might not want an abortion, but other than that, I don't see the problem with it. In that case you mentioned, that's just awful. Having a miscarriage and then someone looks at you and says "Yeah, we can't take that out, you have to carry to full-term." Like, the baby isn't alive and you're just going to not let her get an abortion? I can only imagine how upset she feels about the baby dying, but now she still has to carry that baby inside her. I just don't think that's right at all. Plus, what happens if she gets health complications from it? Are they going to pay for that for her since they declined to abort for her health?

For me it depends on the circumstances. Like if you slept around a lot and got pregnant then I think you should not have an abortion and suffer the consequences of your actions but in cases where a pregnancy is a health concern such as the story you shared or if the baby is not expected to live very long after birth, or pregnancy after sexual abuse then I think it’s acceptable.

The body will not start to decay until those are discontinued. I'm pretty sure there is basically universal agreement there have to be exceptions. Even the anti abortion right wing is often in favor of things like allowing it for rape, health, etc. All they say is that the baby should have a right to life if it can rather than being killed if it survives, and that of course under normal circumstances it should not happen at all or only in the early stages.
