Broadly against. The British statesman and political philosopher Edmund Burke wrote, "The effect of liberty to individuals is that they may do as they please. We ought see what it will please them to do before we risk congratulations." Therein lay the problem with laws that permit abortion on demand.
A society that premises its law as "Choice"- to use the locution of abortion rights advocates - effectively leaves open the question of the value of human life. It becomes not a standing principle, but a subjective judgment to each individual. In such a society, human life becomes not an end in itself, but mere instrument. Life becomes not an object whose preservation is the highest standard, but rather a convenience to be maintained or not according to the satisfaction of another's will.
We shape our laws and then our laws shape us - see also the civil rights laws of the 1960s which have effected a revolution in race relations. (The idea that a black man and a white man cannot sit together at the same lunch counter is as alien to this generation as Neptune. Yet in 1965 it was pretty much the norm.)
Inherent then in the pro-choice argument is the idea that life has no value save that which each person chooses to attach to it. It denies society any authority to make a collective judgment on such questions. Therefore, in this view, the law may not afford protection to life except at some arbitrarily defined (and inherently subjective) point.
This then conduces to an assertion of power over rights. Life is maintained not as its own end, but according to the will of the person who, effectively, controls it because they can. An ethic of convenience is established and it is a slippery slope on which to build a culture and a legal edifice.
Such a society will not value life that sees life as not an end, but as a means to some other end. Indeed, that is why at about the same time as the culture began to shift on the abortion question we also saw a rise in child abuse, spousal abuse, divorce, out of wedlock births and other social pathologies. These were not unrelated phenomena.
Aristotle said that the first questions of politics are, "How ought we to live? What kind of a people do we wish to be?" The implicit answer of those who support abortion on demand is, in effect, that it is nobody's business. Predictable results follow. One cannot expect the society to absent itself from collective moral judgments on the value of life and then expect an ethical social order to result.
For abortion, because I think the idea of abortion being "baby murder" is stupid and is no different than condoms or morning-after pills being "baby murder." My whole thought is, if someone truly is pro-life (and not just anti-abortion for idiotic religious reasons), then they should NEVER be having sex outside of the intent to create a baby, ever! Otherwise, they're hypocrites. I don't give a f*ck if you think a 5 week old embryo is "a baby;" by that same logic, men kill millions of babies throughout their lifetime every time they jerk off or spooge into a woman wearing a rubber. It's the same exact logic to me.
If someone is pro-life for personal reasons, that's all fine and dandy. Hell, after 5 months, I'd be considered "pro life" too, since a baby can be C-sectioned at the six month period and survive outside the womb. But if someone is just anti-abortion to be self-righteous and pretend to care about a baby they really don't give a sh*t about, then their arguments are usually idiotic and emotion based, to me. I'll had SO MANY conversations about this on GAG...

Why do both the political left and the political right love having the government control people's bodies so much?
I am not for abortion, but I am for female bodily autonomy... If she wants to have an abortion, a relatively safe medical procedure, then while I may have moral qualms, I have absolutely no ethical issue with it.
That's the problem, people want the government to make laws to uphold morality, but who's morality? Even if you say Christian morality, which denomination? Some of them you DONT want... And if you want biblical literalism, then you really don't know what you're talking about because MOST of the bible is self contradictory, and what isn't (like the penalty for rape being to pay her father and marry her so you can continue raping her) is ethically abhorrent.
The government's job is to try to regulate ETHICS not MORALS. Ethics deal with how you interact with others, and is concerned with not bringing harm to others unduely. Stoning a man because he is gay may be moral according to some readings, but it is unethical as it unduely robs him of his right to life and subjects him to undue pain for something that has little or no impact on the world or others. There's no balance.
How would you feel if you were a Muslim of a Hindu and Christianity became the law? How would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot and Islam or Hinduism because the law? Try to empathize with your fellow man rather than hate them because they are different.
And for the record, the Bible not only supports abortion, it provides instructions... Look it up.
I am against - unless medical necessity or conceived without consent.
With that being said, then I am pro choice because I'm very much for autonomy. Not my body - not my choice; for me it is as simple as that. I'm also for better sexed, affordable condoms, more research into the female autonomy & better birth control aimed at MEN, and women & men should be the master of their own reproductive system; it shouldn't be such an hassle to find a doctor willing to let you make that choice. Here women struggle to find a doctor that is willing to help her make the choice of being child free. & though I'm against the action, I understand why some women opt for an abortion - have a couple of friends that have.

Now in saying this if I was walking down the street
And there was a mob of people trying to keep a woman out of an abortion clinic and they were bullying her pushing her around I would step in front of that lady and I would do whatever it took to get her into that building that is her right that is her choice nobody else's I would fight for that lady because I believe in that even more
And for the people that are pro-life it's all good I understand I respect that but I can guarantee you this if their mother if their sister if their cousin their aunt was to get raped and found out she was pregnant do you think that lady would have that baby I don't think so
So when a man comes on here and answers your question and starts giving everybody shit just ask him this question if your mom got break tonight your sister your cousin your aunt your friend your girlfriend was raped would you want her to be able to get an abortion if she wanted it

I once listened to a Dr who performed many many abortions, and delivered many babies in the worst kinds of situations. And he said it'd probably be 2% of cases that would require abortion to save the mothers life. To save her life I agree with abortion.
For rape babies I disagree with abortion.
The kid didn't do anything. Adoption is an option.

I'm an on the fencer here.. my step dad was a blessing to my family and was almost aborted but instead got out up for adoption.
I think that it should be a choice, but I've also met one or two women who use it as a type of birth control so I think there should be a limit honestly... I met a woman several years ago who bragged about getting NINE abortions in three years. Like holy fuck that's too much for me. She was literally just a sleaze and a pill addict. But she wouldn't get her tubes tied which baffles me.

I think it is NOT a woman's body she created a life with another person. Number one men should have rights. Women and men give life. It takes TWO to make a child. Most abortion supporters anymore some have common sense the safe legal and rare people don't agree with them but that is another topic.
Alright so lets get into this. 99 percent of abortions WERE her choice to have sex with someone. Then does not want to accept the consequences hence the reason many men run away from their children and the mother of the child... Men can't just abort the child like a woman can.
No we don't always know but rape is a very small percent of abortions. But we all agree that rape is a crime therefore women DO have a choice.

For. Simple: your body, your choice. People get abortions for many reasons: poor health, lack of finances, age and consequence of rape are some of the main ones. Removing a woman's right to an abortion is also stripping her from her control over her body.
Whether you are against abortion: having abortions being illegal makes women more susceptible to dangerous ways of getting one. In countries where abortion is illegal many women die from going to sketchy and unsanitary places to get an abortion.
I saw another person commented that banning abortions also violates natural rights, which is an extremely valid point.

there are many decisions that had to be made before a women gets pregnant like using birth control or having sex to begin with. I personally have referred from having sex until I’m married because I don’t want a women to kill my unborn child, I’d rather be a single father and have the women I got pregnant birth birth to my child and leave the child with me to raise then have the baby killed before it’s born
I'm generally against abortion because I think birth control should be happening on other ways but at the same time I don't consider banning abortion completely as helpful because there could be situations where an abortion should be allowed.
Those scenarios are rape, incest or if it puts the mother's life in danger. Just because we don't know why a woman is pregnant is no reason for an abortion to me because chances that she knows but has no interest in telling the reason. We're all humans that are situations we feel embarrassed about so some of us ( men and women alike) rather choose to lie about it then say the truth.
That's kind of my stand but it's a personal view.
So the consequence for me is to wait with unprotected vaginal sex until the time I know I'm ready settling down to build a family.
Until then I try everything I can to prevent such a scenario and it hasn't happened so far.
As a law student, I believe in natural laws (right to live, right to be free, right to own things etc). Abortion clearly violates one of natural laws which is a right for all human individuals to live. Natural laws are not given by people to people, they are established by "God, nature or a reason" (depending what you believe in), were in use way before than all human-made legislation, and that's why are more valid and can't be disputed.
Taking all of that into consideration, I am sure that killing a baby in mother's womb can't be morally acceptable.

I agree, though that society should step up for pregnant, unmarried women who chose to go to term. Not government. The churches. The Salvation Army. Even Goodwill Industries. I have a large Baptist orphanage near where I live.
A fetus is another part of a woman's body until it's born and takes its first breath. Because it's a part of her body she has the final say as to what happens to it. Most women would love to have children, but in their own time, and not because of rape or other circumstances.
