Is it selfish or wrong that I don't want people knowing about my birthday?

Today is my birthday. I get friends and family wanting to celebrate it, and I know casual acquaintances, coworkers, and others might want to make it a nice day for you too. I appreciate the nice gestures from people who do know, but I really don't know why I think like this.

Is it bad or selfish or whatever that I don't want people knowing or making a big deal? My coworker is a woman and she tried coaxing it out of me a few weeks ago. And it's mostly women in my office area too. Whenever it's someone's birthday, their desks are all elaborately decorated and all. Maybe it's just a man thing? I dunno.
