I'm impressed. That's a great picture of a classic American outhouse, emblazoned with a half moon carving. I'm not sure about the location, maybe a state park somewhere in the Northeast US.

Reminds me of Illinois. Not this old toilet it's self but the building behind it.
I am not sure if they are common in every state as I can only speak to the states I've been but Illinois to Missouri, maybe Kansas have these weird little stopping points for cars with usually toilets inside best thing is they have AC inside and that's what this looks like. With that building behind it been those modern toilets with some vending machines too.
US AC is truly the best thing about US.

I call them weird because over here that don't exist, we just have petrol stations or peeing in bushes lol.

There was a true story about a man in Tennessee who fell inside of the tank where all the nasty stuff goes.
The bad news was it was full of snakes and he couldn't get out!
After a few days his family noticed that they hadn't seen or heard from him in a few days and went looking for him.
Thank God they found him. That was human torture.
I would have done my business in an empty coffee can before going into one of those outhouses!
