Should cops know the law if they are going to enforce them?

It seems that knowing all the law to become a cop isn't necessary or a requirement, it just seems pretty strange, and if it is then why is there so many cops that don't know all the laws, I think maybe it's a small glimpse of how screwed up the system is, is it cause it's a lot of laws to memorize and they wouldn't have many people to enforce them if that was a requirement? and in a completely unrelated note to the topic, why are cops given the roles to say "in the name of the law"

That's so unrealistic, cops never say such a thing, they should at least make it believable, who even made that up, it's more realistic to make the cops yell GET DOWN GET DOWN GET DOWN, DROP THE GUN, DONT MAKE ME SHOOT YOU! not sToP iN tHe nAmE oF tHe lAw! 💀

It certainly seems reasonable to me. Obviously, a police officer can't understand laws like someone who has had three years of law school and passed the bar exam, but they certainly should have a rudimentary understanding of the laws they enforce.

They usually have a handbook of common traffic laws etc... they can look up or use today's cruiser's built in laptops.

I agree with you, there are too many police officers who don't know the law. If they don't know the rules, how can people know and follow them?

There are too many unjustly appointed police officers in Turkey, so there is crime, but when I looked at the American news, I saw that they are no different, the crime rate is very high.

I've heard some not very good things about turkey, like it's ruled under some dickhead or something, I wouldn't be surprised if the police over there are doodoo too

Yep a Turkish chick told me a while back, actually I think it was around the time when the dickhead was being elected or whatnot, if I'm not mistaken a lot of people left turkey when he got elected, then you have the ones that couldn't leave.

I think they do know the law... but they also know that many people don't.

So they use other people's ignorance to their advantage.

Of course. My mom was in law enforcement for 25 years. She was (and still is) well versed in the law.

Well then she was a good cop, can't say the rest of them are well versed tho as there's cops that get ego trips and the smallest things, clearly they aren't aware their ego trips can sometimes break the law when they act on ego

There are good and bad apples in every profession. There are lazy employees and hard working employees in every profession. That’s what I keep in mind.

But shouldn't policing have a form of restriction from enforcing the law if they don't even know the laws they are enforcing? Its more of a logical thing than anything tbh, which I believe can stop the majority of the abuse of the badges in the police force.
