1 yI've taken a run down (nearly condemned) 120 year old house and renovated it room by room while living in it, gutting half of the rooms down to the studs, leveling the house slowly with hydraulic jacks and steel plates, repaired and refinished the original 4 panel doors, refinished the maple floors, rewired the entire house, added an ensuite bathroom with a custom tiled two person shower to the primary bedroom, repaired all of the leaded glass windows that had badly warped and had broken panes, converted a "shower room" off the kitchen to a powder room, replaced the chimney cap, repaired and replaced all of the exposed ductwork, and insulated the entire house. I'd say I'm handy enough. I did hire out the drywall tape and texture and the roof though.

u 1 yGetting there. My dad has been helping me renovate our bathroom. There's a lot more I've done by myself with this project than most others. My wife and I bought this house earlier this year and there's all sorts of stuff that keeps coming up that was either a sloppy job or just a "WTF?" kind of thing.
My in-laws gave me a video set of how to do DIY projects around the house. I'm hoping watch more of those soon.

Yes. I'm handy around the house to a degree. My other is not and a total wash when it comes to even helping me. I can do most things that are simple repairs or fixes. I'm not going to be building furniture or even a birdhouse but I can unclog drains by removing the stoppers and make small fixes in our apartment. That hasn't been without mishaps at times. I usually call my dad before (and sometimes after) so that I know that I did it right. That's somewhat the learning process and then next time I don't have to ask him. My other sibling is a wreck at fixing things quite literally. It is almost to the point where we don't let her touch problems. That's pretty much the same for my girlfriend as well

That seems like that best way to go about it. Knowing the basics is all that’s really required if you ever want a house in my opinion.
Are the landlords not responsible for those repairs, though?
Lolo that’s the same for my sister. - 1 y
Oh ok I see.
Yea tell me about it 🙄😆 - 1 y
Yes, we have met. And can confirm, bad seed
Jk lmao - 1 y
For now. This thread will be waiting, though.
- 1 y
Why is that?
- 1 y
I’ll live with it
- 1 y
I really hope you don’t. It would be more fun if you interact here as well.
- 1 y
I had fun talking n to you just now.
- 1 y
No, you are very fun. So fun I didn’t even notice the badge.
- 1 y
Well I think you are and do hope to keep seeing you around
- 1 y
I see. No pressure if you’d rather keep to yourself but at the same time I couldn’t care less if you talking to me makes others not like me. That’s their problem in my eyes. Coming to a place like this should be a fun escape in my opinion and I hope you’re able to enjoy yourself here
- 1 y
Ah man that’s disappointing to hear. I kind of thought they were friends too
- 1 y
Well that’s disappointing. Thanks for the heads up. If you ever want to talk/vent feel free.
And if you want to just goof off here. I hope you drop in at least every so often.

1 yMy hubby is awesome…me? Not at all.
hubby used to work as handy man…I met him and said too hard on him… time to retire. So he did…. after we got married.
when I met him… he renovated his 1500 sf house. Redid the kitchen, put in new wooden floors. Rebuild a new bathroom, shower, tiled with heated floor.
I can see he was a perfectionist by the work he did.now he is the handyman for the house… he takes care of anything that needed fixed…dish washer, refrigerator, car, computer… Etc….

My day job is being an audio video integrator, so I'm using tools of many types all the time.10 Reply

1 yI do a lot of my own repairs, either from past experience or guidance on You Tube. I'm not a stranger to most tools as I used to make crafts and rehab old furniture.
