I remember during the start of covid the toilet paper shortage. Crazy….

We all have during the pandemic.

However, while it didn't affect me personally then because I was too young to drive, back in the 1970s... in particular 1974 and 1979, we had gasoline shortages. There'd be long lines of cars waiting to get gas. Many states instituted rationing. So, for instance, if you license plate ended in an even number, you could get gas on M, W, F and if it ended in an odd number, you could get gas on T, Th, S. Even a few years ago, I remember some form of gas rationing which depended on the type of vehicle and location/type of road where you could get gas... and when.

I remember the shortage of gasoline during the Arab oil embargo of the 1970s. If a gas station had gas, cars would line up around the block to top off. Some station owners would only sell gas to their steady customers who also had their cars serviced and repaired at their station. They started selling gas to cars with even-numbered license plates and odd-numbered license plates on alternate days. Bad times.

My girlfriend at the time (future wife) and I got quarantineed right before we could do groceries and we had very little food.

She still had to work as a nurse but couldn't stop by for groceries or food, she would come back home with some crackers and that was it. She got the Corona so she couldn't go out anymore so for a week or so we literally starved because we couldn't go out and nobody would bring us food.

Ours wasn't an ubique situation, and many people used against the State.

- shortage of beers in the fridge

- shortage of bank account funds towards the end of the month

- shortage of freedom of speech during family gatherings

- shortage of attractive (visual, and intellectual) ladies in general

- shortage (recently) of men's clothing options in popular shopping centres

...

actually, I find the entire present century to be a shortage in itself :D

The only reason there was a "shortage" was that people are gullible, fearful, and can't logically compute how much TP they REALLY in a given span of TIME. They buy four 30-packs at Costco when they may only use a roll or two a week, so that's over a year's supply.

We keep a reasonable stock of foods and supplies. I know that the "food stores" in our area each work on a fairly predictable pattern of major and minor sales. By determining that span of time, and stocking up on each item as it comes up on sale- but by only buying what will get us to the NEXT major sale, and not buying an apocalyptic quantity- we seldom experience "stock-outs", yet still manage to hold our required storage space for our supplies to a workable level.

The first weeks of Covid were bad, not just for toilet paper though. Anything apart from canned food with a long shelf life was suddenly gone.

Not a real 'shortage', but olive oil prices went up like crazy a couple of years ago. So much so that certain stores prohibited buying several bottles at once. They also put alarms on the bottles, that needed to be removed at the cash register. Too many people with long coats and deep pockets...

And some chocolate manufacturers don't stock any products in the summer 'cause it's too warm outside and you'll never get it home before it melts.

There should always be a shortage of something , and thats fine , you improvise , all these utter idiots storing toilet paper were beyond a joke..

There should always be some supply issues , never get addicted to brands , thats what they want.

No I haven't. I think the only shortages that happen here are because the supplier or producer of the good wants to raise prices like coca cola is doing right now or they have some kind of issue where they can't deliver as much as usual or so. But it's only one product one brand it's not a shortage where a store is half empty, I've never experienced that even during Covid.

There have been so many shortages in my life. Gas shortage in the 70's. You could only get gas on odd or even days depending on your license plate. Gas shortages during hurricane Gloria and sandy. Paper shortage during the pandemic. Construction material shortage during hurricanes and the pandemic.

yeah the toilet paper one. but i just took the wet toilet paper instead at the time cause all the morons complaining there's no toilet paper just ran past that. and honestly i stuck with that, cause it's way more sanitary than dry toilet paper.

I didn't experience the toilet paper shortage, though I probably contributed to it a little as I had a gut feeling that it was going to happen and stocked up. Everyone laughed at me like I was crazy, laughter didn't last long, a week later all the shelves in my area was empty. That said, did experience an egg shortage last year, both my local supermarket and Walmart were out of eggs for a couple of weeks.

we didn’t have toilet or toilet paper. We didn’t have bags to put things in, no stoves or refrigerators… And a lot more other things like bathtubs… etc… we kinda lived pretty primitive.

I guy in my neighborhood had a stockpile of toilet paper in his garage. When he moved to a different neighborhood, I saw his pickup truck and he had so much toilet paper it took up about half the space in the back.

There never was a toilet paper shortage until. people started hoarding it. It emptied the supply lines and it took. time to catch up.

The whole thing started in Australia. Where there actually was a shortage for a while.
