Stimulated by @purplepoppy and her questions about kitchen gadgets, pictured is a thing that might be found in most handyman and building construction workshops.

Do you know what it is called, what it is used for, and how it works?

GaG software is at it again. This question has obviously nothing to do with Sexuality, yet GaG software changed the selected Other category to Sexuality when it was posted. Maybe "Stimulated" or "gadget" is a sexual keyword?

@GirlsAskGuys, would someone please correct the category to Other. Thanks you in advance.

There are many different names for this object. Many use the generic term "molly bolt".
It's used to secure things to a wall made of drywall, aka plasterboard.
You drill a hole in the wall, insert the molly, then tighten the bolt. This causes the sheath around the bolt to bend and grasp the inner wall, creating a secure anchor in the wall. You can then mount whatever you want.
It's often used to mount heavy pictures or artwork.
