I guess this was too eady. Just about everyone got it tight.
It is, of course, a scissors jack, usually used to raise the car when changing a tire. As some pointed out, some cars have one in the trunk (boot) along with a spare tire (tyre).

Itis a scissors jack for a car. I think the chintzy jacks they give you today are dangerous, especially if you are in rough terrain. It is a miracle tht car manufacturers do not get sued when a jack slips and the wheel falls on somebody's leg. I keep a floor jack and a piece of plywood in my truck/

The old bumper jacks worked good and they were very stable.

Nowadays 99% of people never change their own tire because roadside assistance is dirt cheap (like $2-$5/month) with car insurance. If/when the communications networks ever go down, a lot of people will be screwed.

@hahahmm I do not know why but I used to get flat tires a lot. Now i have one flat tire in 20 years. I think tires are better today. Maybe it is the kevlar.

Especially where the area a jack is to go is so small on the body of a car. They used to have a female hole in the cars body and the top of the scissor jack had a nipple at the top to allign them. Not sure why car manufacturers didn't make that a standard.

Scissors jack for a car. Using one of these is much more difficult than using a floor jack, but is easy to carry in the trunk of your car.

At least it was safer than the ones that hooked on to the bumper or went in the hole in the bumper.
It's faster too because you can use it under the rear axle or front A arm and you don't have to overcome the suspension droop.

I hope most people on here know that’s a scissor jack , I actually have one in my car and it’s a 2020 Toyota, they are quite common in cars for emergency use only but not very stable and need to be placed in a certain spot under the car’s unibody chassis

That's the crappy thing that I haven't had to use in a very long time thanks to now owning one of these:

I had to change the brakes and rotors on my parents' car a few months ago and this, plus an impact gun, made it a 40 minute job instead of a 2 hour job with a scissor jack and lug wrench.

It's annoying that every manufacturer seems to have a different design. Half the faffing about changing your tyre is figuring out how the jack works.

This is easy, it’s a car jack. We use it to raise up the car to fix/change the tires and the bar to loosen or tighten the screws for the tires 😌
