To me it's foremost a courtesy thing for the smell. Don't be a fucking savage and press the damn timer button before you sit!! When you're done and you rise, if it still stinks hit the timer button for more run time!!

If it's steam then run it til it disapates! No one can use the mirror til the steam is gone! Also the damp environment causes rust, paint peeling or mold on tiles & glass!! Are YOU gonna update / redo the bathroom? No? Then use the fucking tools that are in there for courtesy & pragmatism!!!

Well, I'm learning concrete things today lol

There is some ventilation system for any room, including toilet (room), including bathroom, that's the law for house building I suppose. But air outlets I know of aren't fans, this is not controllable and there is no timer associated. Or of it exists it is in houses/flats I have never seen?

The steam is taken care of by air outlerts, plus leaving the bathroom door open, or the window if you wish, but don't forget to close it, else the cats will escape. As for the toilets (it's often enough a separate room of its own), well, some people use deodorizing systems, chemicals, either manual or automatic. Some don't care, some warn the folks, rules are changing depending with whom you live.

But fans? Never heard about them, so that must be country based

I usually use it. I once saw an upscale modern apartment where there was no bathroom fan at all. Plus they used the wrong kind of paint for a bathroom so it was going to get nasty in there with people showering.

Also reminds me of the time I worked for a small company where the owner was too lazy to fix a broken fan. One day I had a massive stomach flu and had to go into work for a minute. I did chemical warfare on that bathroom and then left work for the day. The bathroom was right next to the boss's office. Surprise, surprise... next time I came in the fan was fixed.

We use the fan + a heater thats stuck above the doorway to help clear steam. I do get annoyed if people don’t use it when borrowing our shower, but it’s not a biggie since we always have a window cracked.

I actually hate the sound of the fan. So I only use it after I come out the bathroom. Fortunate thing is we have 2.5 washroom so no one suffers.

Use the fan when taking a shower always. Otherwise, the steam will mold the walls and ceiling.

Both, plus I have dropper bottles filed with essential oils. A few drops of Lemongrass oil after flushing kills any stink so far.
