Can I take legal action with with the them over this?

I live in the Midwest now, I just moved here for a job. I didn’t have much time to look for an apartment because I was on a time crunch but the one I found seemed pretty nice. I went looking with my mom and it was really necessary for both of us that I found one that HAD a gate! When I went to tour the one i’m at now they basically told me and my mom there would be a gate and told us the code and everything. When my move in day and when I got my paperwork they told me the gate code again and gave it written down in my paperwork. It turns out the gate has been broken for a while now and I’m pissed because that’s the only reason I moved here. I feel like I was kind of led under false pretenses and have emailed them a couple of times asking when it will be fixed and they said there will be someone fixing it but this was a week or two ago and no updates. Besides that the apartment is crappy and old and there are people in and out of it all the time and I feel unsafe. When I came back at night from work the other day, someone came up to my car. There were also drug needles on the ground. I’m trying to document my conversation with them but I am interested in breaking my lease. Especially if they don’t fix the gate soon. Can I do this? How should I navigate this?
