It is quite clear from dating apps that men irrespective of their own age prefer women in their early twenties. Just after puberty I more likely got erections over early 20's women than schoolgirls my own age. I am still more likely to get erections over that same age group of females than women my own age.

In part that might be because that female cohort are more inclined to make themselves beautiful and display the goods more. But at that age the goods are better to be frankly honest.

It is quite macabre & nasty but archaeologists recently found a burial pit about 10,000 years old. Men, older females, and young females were in the pit. It was only 20's something females that were missing from the pit. The tribe that murdered this tribe wasn't prepared to let teen girls to mature into 20's girls. I did say macabre & nasty.

So yes men do prefer early 20's women and always have it seems.

I'm seeing more young men with older women to the degree I think is she his mom or his date? But I think this is more about sexual accessibility to be frank. Knew a couple where she was 20 years senior. I say knew because he broke up with her - quite politely - and is now looking for a 20's girl to have children with.

Where does this leave you? Whilst men might prefer early 20's it doesn't mean to say they can get them. Character is important. The feminine virtues are important. Men have different mate selection criteria to women and women have been told many times here on GAG that what you look for is not what we look for and don't make the mistake of thinking it is the same.

You say you are independent. I might read that and interpret as demanding, uncooperative and possibly disputatious whereas I am looking for genuinely nice, and a calm & patient disposition. Understand what men want is my point.

The final point is that most men will want a woman younger than they are but that is relative. A 40's male is likely quite happy with your age.

No, you don't need to worry.

I've known girls who became obsessive about this. They would assume that all guys want younger women. And that's just not true.

I'm 40, and sure I would go for a younger girl (not all that much younger), but If I met someone my own age who I liked, that's great. I'm not like... ignoring women my age in favor of younger ones. It's not that guys don't like younger women.

It also depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for casual dating or casual sex or if you're looking for something substantial if things work out.

A much younger woman is less attractive for something longer term (very much depends, there are just some life stages differences that can be a problem) Than they are for casual mostly sexual relationships.

No decent guy your age is only interested in younger women.

You're in your 30s your "Grade A Prime" kid. If you maintain yourself well in your 40s you may still find that guys are interested, but if their goal is to find a gal to settle down and make babies with they're gonna aim for the younger gals. Guys looking more for companions MIGHT opt for an older woman, but a lot of older women get the starry-eyed lads with unfulfilled "milf"/"mommy" fantasies.

That's a generalization, of course... THERE ARE decent guys looking for gals their age if you're just patient enough to let them find you.

Men are genetically programmed to be most attracted to women in their early to mid 20s, but most still prefer to date women in their own age range.

@Summeroflove True, every man is different. But it's a fact that most men don't care about a woman's job, what care she drives, whether she owns a home, none of that. It's a generalization, but it's generally true. And the reality is, women who feel the need boast about being independent tend to have a chip on tehir shoulder and something to prove, which is off putting to MOST men.

@Asker I think that's great, and I respect a woman who feels that way. But there is a reason I worded my response the way I did. As I said to Summeroflove, most men have learned from experience that when a woman says she's an independent woman, more often than not it's a sign of attitude problems... attitudes about men and relationships Think about it... what would you think about a man who says "I'm a strong and independent man". Wouldn't that be weird? What would you think his motives are for saying it?

My intentions are good here. I encourage you to not say "I'm an independent woman" on your dating profile (for example), because thanks to the deeds of countless other women, you are not painting the positive picture of yourself to men that you think you are.

Guys want a woman up till about 40. By then, you probably better have some sort of a bond with a man, or you will be fighting an uphill battle. And that's not to say it's over for you, but you better have a great personality. And yes, guys will say, "Why is she still 40 and single?" Most women who are 40 and single still are not by accident. Because guys know how women make a mad dash to find a partner in their late 30's so they don't get frozen out.
