Have you ever encountered a Karen, what happened?

I used to work as a batista and one a customer came in that I'd dealt with many times b4, she'd seen me the previous day with my boyfriend who plays college basketball and I presumed she'd want her usual and I asked her if she wanted "coffee black?" Well she just lost it and went crazy at me and demanded to see the manager claiming I committed a hate crime and some other black college kids backed her up. I got fired the next day and hounded in college about it.
I don't understand, what was the so-called "hate crime/' What did they say you did? It just seems really weird!

I encountered Karens during the covid hysteria. My best example is this:
I was in a large dental office a couple years ago. They gave me a mask to wear in the waiting room. I complied but had it pulled down below my nose.
When they called me in, I followed them and removed my mask.
When they were done, I went to the side desk to pay and make a follow up appointment.
All of a sudden, some lady wearing what looked like a Darth Vader mask came out of a door and told me I had to wear a mask. I told her that I was almost finished and would be leaving, but she kept insisting.
She said that the office was complying with mandates. I told her that I had been in the back for an hour and a half without a mask while they worked on my teeth and that nobody bothered me when I was back there.
I said I would be done in a minute if she would stop bothering me.
She called some male dental assistant to stand by her as if I was threatening her, and said I would have to leave. What a dumb ass.
I said "Ok, Karen" and told her to go ahead and try to throw me out physically and said she could call the cops.
I finished what I was going a few moments later and left.
The next time I went to the office, the office manager was there. I knew him already and he's super cool guy. He said he heard about what happened the last time I was there.
We went into his office and, come to find out, he was amused. I even commented on her mask and referred to her as a Karen. He was cracking up. He said nobody there likes wearing masks and they aren't strict about clients. He said the employees who had been there were totally amused. It had been the talk of the office.
Come to find out, that lady is an orthodontic surgeon who is only in that office one day a week. I guess being a dental surgeon made her a "medical expert" and gave her a sense of authority.
Well, she didn't have authority over me and the other employees thought she was the office joke.
OMG Liam , dont remind me about these precious fools ( I was just like you ) though the entire thing , I strongly object to masks , and only did it if absolutely enforced. many things happened.
I think the most stupid was when I was kicked off a local website for sayings " Its utterly ludicrous to mandate wearing a mask on a golf course " ( Victoria Australia , the most paranoid place in the world ) #Daniel Andrews , what an A - hole.
@molonski2. On a golf course. ROFL
Yeah, and morons wearing masks while riding bikes or jogging in wilderness areas. Not to mention when driving alone in cars.
Funny one
@Lliam I work for a state college and I was able to jump the line to get the vaccine. I got the wo shot Moderna and after waiting the two weeks I decided that I would take Biden's word for it and decided that I could not catch the disease so I culd not transmit it either. I was done with masks. Anytime somebody would give me a hard time I would tell them I was vaccinated. I actually carried around the little card they gave you as well and offered to show it to them. Most of the times they gave up. A few times I just walked out. I figured it they did not want my business I could go someplace else which I did.
I went out for subs one night and the guy told me I needed a mask so I walked out and went to another shop down the street. i told the guy behind the counter about what happened and we had a good laugh about it. i have been going there ever since.
I used to work as a manager in a children's museum (read, FULL of Karen experiences). During the winter, we'd have this display about holidays around the world. Each section celebrated a holiday celebrated in a different country during the month of December/January, so Las Posadas, Hannukah, Christmas, etc. I got a radio message that this lady wanted to speak to me about the exhibit. When I arrived, she was already red in the face and my staffer was looking like, oh thank GOD, you're here to deal with this (never a good sign). The lady pointed to our Christmas exhibit and proceeded to literally go off about how the Nativity was not there. She angrily pranced up and down the row between the exhibits and said, look here, look there, THEY all have their pieces!!! She then said, as a Christian, this was absolutely offensive to her that we catered to everyone else, but not HER people, and not to AMERICANS by not having the Nativity present. I was like ma'am, the exhibit talks about the Nativity and Christianity in detail up to and including several take homes where the kids could color a nativity and lyrics to Christmas songs. I also pointed out that kids and adults frequently pocket our Nativity scene, along with tons of other exhibit pieces which we are sometimes lucky enough to confiscate at the door before they leave, so most likely someone has walked off with it.
THIS WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!! She just kept ranting about how we were anti-Christian. Other parents jumped in to try to walk her back from the ledge, but her Christian blood was on fire and she could not be stopped. She eventually wanted the phone number of someone to complain to, so I gave her our Exhibits manager's number who was NEVER going to call her back unless something was legit broken in an exhibit, lol, and off she went still fuming about how she didn't think she would ever come back to such an anti-Christian establishment. FYI, we had 3 full versions of the Nativity stored in the exhibit space, locked up, but by 5pm (we closed at 6), all three of them had walked off with guests because there were no more to replace the scene, and we had a 3 a day limit because of supply costs. Fun!
But as she pointed out you cater to everyone else but treat Christian worse, that is discrimination against Christian which is NOT okay.
In contrast to karen with emoty complaints... but you think discrimination against Christian is no big deal we should "turn the other cheeck"?
@strateguy632 Where was the discrimination exactly? How did we treat her worse because she was a Christian. To treat someone worse based on their race, ethnicity, religion, would imply you intentionally sought to do so. The kids or adults randomly took the Nativity out of the house, something that cannot be prevented as the set was designed to be interactive, so you couldn't glue the pieces in place. Her screaming that "all the other houses" had their pieces was incorrect. I know this because we had a whole set list for every house and every single day pieces were missing from every single house but screaming and making a scene about it made her feel better or to seem like she specifically or her religion was being singled out. I don't think you understand what discrimination actually means.
I was a bouncer for like ten years, certainly had my share of unpleasant customers. But this one lady I will never forget.
The bar I worked at had an upstairs and a downstairs, that ran separately, the money just went in the same bag at the end of the night. But simply put, you couldn’t come and go as you pleased from one to the other, necessarily. Better said: it was one business if you were an employee (same kitchen, same kegs you were drawing beer from upstairs or downstairs, same managers, upstairs bouncers would come downstairs if there was a problem, etc), but if you were a customer, it’s two separate venues. Downstairs was a full restaurant with a bar, and it was more of an older “after work” crowd. Upstairs was more of a lounge and pool hall, aimed towards college kids, much more of a traditional bar scene.
So, I mostly worked upstairs. We didn’t open til 4 or 5. Bouncer shifts didn’t usually even start til 7 unless there was something going on like Homecoming or Alumni Weekend. Anyway, I must’ve been there at 7, because it was quiet. Sometimes we’d turn the TV volume up, depending on what was going on, and unplug the jukebox. Major sporting events, and I remember we let some people watch The State Of The Union one year with the sound on, because it was like a Tuesday and barely anyone was there.
This particular night, though, it was the night of a Presidential debate. I’m guessing it was Obama/McCain, probably 2008. It was also the night of a big baseball playoff game that the Red Sox were playing in, and this was Massachusetts, so it’s our home team.
I wasn’t involved in the initial conversation, I think the bartenders were, but this older woman probably in her 50s came in, and she was trying to watch the debate there, I guess. There may have even just been the pre-debate news coverage on, and at 7:30 nobody is really there, but in an hour or so, this place is going to start getting bodies in there, it was a Thirsty Thursday, haha.
Anyway, the long and the short of it is, a moment came where the bartenders had to say “ma’am, just so you know, pretty soon we’re going to have to switch to the baseball game, and turn the jukebox on and mute the TVs.
So she said “no problem”, paid her tab, quietly gathered her belongings AND I’M JUST KIDDING, SHE FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT, lmfao.
I think I had just been promoted to Head Of Security, so I was part of the management team and acted in both roles, working the door but also managing the upstairs bar area. So she was my problem, lmao. I had just noticed her yelling, I had been standing outside on the balcony for a minute because it was slow, but just as I started over towards her, she was making a beeline for me. I’m sure the bartender was like “Fuck this…PASS”😂
Yo, she cussed me out SO HARD, lmfao. I could hardly get a word in edgewise, she was hysterical. I’m trying to explain that we’re a bar, with college clientele, on the first drinking night of the weekend, with a playoff baseball game featuring the team most people in the area root for, and that this just wasn’t the kind of time or place to watch a debate, we’d literally lose business.
She starts freaking out on me and telling me I’m contributing to the ignorance of the youth, and beer and baseball don’t matter, and fuck this and fuck them and fuck me and fuck the establishment. I’m trying so hard to maintain my composure because I had just gotten a promotion that finally lifted me over the poverty line, lmfao. And she’s just spit-screaming in my face. She finally tired herself out, told me she’d never come here again, I just said “that’s probably a good idea, ma’am”, and she hit me one with one last hearty FUCK YOU!”, and stormed out the door.
I had to go to the downstairs bar for something like an hour later, and who do you think was there, watching the debate and sipping a martini, in a much quieter and more appropriate venue. I technically should’ve kicked her out, but I just shook my head and laughed, and went about my business. But she was definitely the stand-out Karen moment of my life.
Haven’t had too explosive of one yet, but I’m going to also put in a word for Fishing Karens, the ones who think their waterfront property constitutes ownership of said water. My friends and I are very careful and very respectful to not cast near people’s docked boats, or obviously not docks with people sitting on them. We cast near clear docks because bass hang out underneath them, but again, we’re careful to not cast ONTO the dock, not that it would harm anything, but just out of respect of space.
But a couple people have either come outside or yelled from their porch, nothing super hostile yet, but kind of being stupid and telling us to be careful of this or that, when we already are. One lady was like “watch out for my dock!”, and her dock was literally not even in the water, it was still raised up from the winter, no chance of hitting it. Kind of just unnecessarily inserting themselves to assert dominance and just generally having weird “stay off muh property” vibes that aren’t called for. And on this particular lake, it’s a money thing. It’s SUUUUUUUPER expensive, and the houses are almost all enormous and ornate (or at least rustic-ornate), like hedge fund manager shit, haha, or just a lot of “old money.” Some of their boathouses are nicer than any apartment I ever lived in. So…. some of their people are snooty, and look at you like “what are YOU doing here? You look poor. And you’re FISHING, EW!”🧐
So, honorable mention. Fuck those Fishing Karens and Man-Karens🖕
Those lake-property owners seem to be their own category. I saw a YouTube video where some old guy threatened to pull a gun on two fishing kids at a lake with public access. Madness.
@DryGermanGuy They’re unbelievable. I think there are people out there who are just achievement-checkers. Like they need to make sure you’ve worked hard enough to be there, and you don’t want anyone who they don’t think worked as hard as them enjoying what they’re enjoying. It’s a weird, jealousy-based and/or superiority-based mentality. And the funny part are these people were mostly born into the money, and those who weren’t, they didn’t make it roofing in July, lmfao, they probably just shorted a bunch of stocks or invested in the right company early. People LOVE to self-congratulate for “how hard they’ve worked.” And I’m not sure that’s always warranted, relative to what I think of as “hard work.” You don’t necessarily have to break a sweat to work hard, but I’m not gonna fellate anybody for being good at picking stocks, lmfao. And even if you worked your ass off…. I still ask “who the fuck are you?” The point of life isn’t who makes the most money or has the most impressive job. I pity those who think it is.
Back when I worked in a job where I worked with the public, we would encounter them occasionally. After that, I occasionally see them in public. The worst one recently was in a Lowe's home improvement store. She was checking out at the register, and there was a problem with her credit card that wouldn't go through. She threw a complete fit with cursing and threatening. I don't know why, if the credit card was denied, she couldn't expect the store to give her the stuff. It was so bad I was thinking of calling the police just to help the store employees. She was even cursing in the parking lot and was out there yelling and flipping off the store.
In 2015 I was driving to the dump in my pickup truck to get rid of my trash. I have a Trump sticker on my truck. Usually when i am driving around sometimes somebody will honk their horn and wave or give me the thumbs up. So one day I am driving through town and a woman in a Black Escalade honks her horn at me. I just smile and give her a big wave. I pull into the dump and this woman follows me into the dump. She rolls down her window and starts yelling at me. She was calling Trump a Nazi and calling me a fascist. The dump was pretty busy and As i was getting the trash out of the back of my truck she kept screaming. I just stood there for a few seconds and laughed at her. She was so crazy. Soon other people started laughing at her too. She was pissed and turned her car around and sped away.
That’s why I don’t put stickers on my care. Doesn’t matter what side you’re on, you’ll get a bad reaction one way or another
Car.
@blackeagle007 I refuse to be silenced.
Well. I hope some crazy doesn’t vandalize your car. In the times we are in, people are asshats.
@blackeagle007 I keep my car in sight most of the time. They vandalize it at their own peril.
In suitable circumstances, I wear a body cam with audio.

On one occasion, Karen became a little frisky and when she started up on me, I said: Smile, you're on Candid Camera!
Yeah, once when I was in a salon getting my hair done a Karen who had been waiting for me to get finished told the staff I was taking forever, and then said I wasn’t pretty enough to be pampered and said she deserved it more than me…
Needless to say her visit wasn’t that long and she was told to leave immediately.
Yes, just last week. In the building wear I work, there is a woman who thinks I have a different job than I do. While sitting at a table and talking to my boss (that's the one she should have yelled at) She stormed up to me and, pointed her finger in my face and stated" I have been telling you about that leak for a month and now, a fucking month, and you do nothing about it" She walked about 20 feet away, turned and yelled " A fucking month" My boss almost fell over laughing, he looked at me and said, "is that the leak you keep telling me about" I said "Yes" He responded, "glad she thought you were me"
Right here on G@G. A pseudo-Christian nutjob who did not like my opinion and demanded to speak with an admin, screeching about getting my account deleted. It was almost comical. Of course she has since gotten her own account deleted for absolutely disgusting personal attacks against others (Christian values, remember?).
These Karen's are literally EVERYWHERE , but particularly in Australia , not really so much here in Thailand ( very rare ) , these stupid bitches seemed to breed during bullshit Covid , when they were in their hypochondriac element.
To all Karens out there , get on with life and " mind your own fcken business " none care what you think , or protest about. Its like the utter bullshit that was " Slutwalk " how stupid , common sense please.
100s of Karens.
@IknowthatIdontKnow09 I have heard this nonsense term used before (Karen) and have no idea what moron decided to use the name KAREN, to demean someone they dislike or apply unlikable attributes or personality traits to.
That said I know women with the name KAREN and she is perfectly fine so I have no idea how to respond to such an obtuse question
@IknowthatIdontKnow09 oh nothing happened - it's just a memorable story now. One I could do without or two. Look every day all it takes is one person to ruin it so that's life lol 😭😆 - I try not to dwell and I sometimes only remember by choice if I then wanna in the future say to some future friend or lover, once "this one time"
@itsannalee other times I just push them from memory banks of my brain because I don't wanna give them more publicity from my brain than they deserve at all, urgh 🫢
@itsannalee sorry wrong tag I mean to tag asker @IknowthatIdontKnow09
We don't have that here in India.
We have judgmental aunties here who poke their nose in everyone's business. Thankfully for some reason, these kinda aunties like me cuz I get good grades and don't wear 'inappropriate clothes'.
Be greatfull
There are a lot of nice women named karen that probably don't appreciate their name being used as a synonym for angry entitled bitch
Often yes I make them angrier I break check them, mess with them more as I'm driving they get angrier , close the windows , doors on their face.
I had a middle age woman red screaming in my face because she couldn't handle simple directions that I had to give her as a valet. Her daughter had to drag her off.
Karens and Kens, seems like I've spent a lifetime dealing with them.
Worked fast food for 7 years the worst was having food and a drink thrown at me but they are mean lol
Used to work in a women's section at Macy's... I encountered them all the time.. Most of them were cool... Enough..
Not just out there, in here on this forum as well like some rabid-viral infestation. So many of them watch out, be safe..
Thankfully I haven't had a run in with one of those types in quite some time now.
Why is a 58-year-old man using such a juvenile term as “Karen.”
Grow up.
I have encountered and been a Karen. It's never pretty once the bystander phones come out!!
Most women are karens, Karen is just a racial slur for a type of white women.
you mean today? lmao...
I will need to be in America for encount one.
Dealing with karens require taking anti anxiety meds. Speaking as a med taker 🙃
I done 14 hours in jail before police drop case
Keep away from Karen's
What is a Karen?
Yes Jennz was Karen 😶
She played with my feelings
I'm pretty sure I know who you are... that comment is unnecessary.
I tend to troll them. Make out with my fiancé. That tend to piss them off.
More then I can count.

Repeatedly. I work retail.
Nope, only Tyrones.
