Do you think highly intelligent people should be feared or admired?

Should the sun be admired or feared? The strength & relevance of its power can be viewed similarly to that which an intelligent person can yield (in terms of our emotional response to it).

Our interpretation of the sun depends on how it's interacting with us & the things that matter to us. But of course, like with the intelligent person, there are other systems in place that is causing the drastic changes in interpretation. The source is all the same. The sun doesn't become hotter during summer days or colder during the winter.

Is the smart person evil? Are they on our team? We probably wouldn't mind them as much if they are. We might even convince ourselves not to see them as evil. Then of course if they're not on our team & are working against us, then we can far more easily view them as evil.

So I don't put much stock in these emotions of ours. We're just creatures who are very good at adapting to reality so we cope in as many ways as reality will allows us to. There's been so much smoke & so many mirrors in this room to the point where we passed out long ago & the ones who've woken up still don't even fully know what's real.

neither of these should be based solely in these factors...

a few more things should be considered and factored in as well

emotional intelligence for example... this one might be more important and also how they go about most things within their lives too

Fear and admiration are two extremes and connected with emotions. I think hostile people should be avoided, people who respect you should be respected, their IQ is irrelevant in this regard.

treated normally? why should we fear or admire someone only because one of their traits? what about the rest of the personality?

It depends.

Highly intelligent people can be very dangerous in certain personality types. Sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists.

On the other hand a moron could never write the music that Mozart created or perform the thought experiments that Albert Einstein used to develop the general theory of relativity.

Admired. I admire smart people especially the rare few who are more brilliant than myself... but even if not.

I also totally identify with sheldon who said to penny "you shouldn't cry because you feel stupid, i cry because others are stupid". In series big bang.

I don't think intelligence is related to whether someone should be feared or admired. I think it's all about their intentions. If someone is evil and intelligent, then yes that can evoke fear. And if someone is intelligent and wants to help and progress society then that is a person worthy of being admired.

achievements and accomplishments have always historically been celebrated

I the think they should be admired but also warrant some caution

I don’t typically fear other people regardless of who or what they are
But I would fear a situation they might chose to put me in so that’s something I prepare for
