Why don’t we follow our first thought?

Sometimes and then sometimes it can be the wrong decision. It just depends on what you are deciding. Like cheating for instance. A lot of people follow their first thought instead of going against it and that's how they end up in bad situations with their significant other.

Most people overthink things, it's just human nature.

I once worked for a boss who explained that he almost always makes quick decisions, going with his first thought. By doing that, if it turns out to be a mistake, there's plenty of time to fix it. If you wait to make a decision, and it turns out to be wrong, there's no time to fix things. I've adopted that in my decision making. I'm not always right but when I'm not...

That is a very good question. Even I don't know why we don't do that. Lack of courage or simply change in circumstances.
