I am the exact opposite of sentimental.

I will chuck old crap, no matter what it is. I don't like clutter, and I don't like holding on to useless trinkets.

I remember my mother trying to give me a box of keepsakes, like all my old birthday cards, my baby blanket, and some other "memories" that she'd saved since I was born.

I told her that if she thinks it's important, she should probably hold onto it, 'cause I'd toss it in the trash as soon as I got home. Stuff like that just doesn't mean anything to me.

I’ve never considered myself a very sentimental person , maybe because I’ve repeatedly had to loose so many possessions it’s become a form of emotional self preservation.


I think it’s perfectly normal though, and really positive. It connects us to others , embedded in our identity and memories.


Kinda makes me grieve a little over what I’ve had to loose 😞

Yes.
I have few of my mom’s things that I can’t get rid of even though she’s alive. I will die with them. I have a diary I use from when I was 15-18 that I’ve kept.
I keep about of things and I plan to keep them forever.
Plane tickets, movie tickets, hotel cards, leaflets from fun adventures… you name it, I keep it.

Yeah i refuse to throw out my kids belly cords and one of their placentas. Some people might think its gross but I can't let them go

I have the ashes of my cat and dog. I loved them a lot and I like to think that as long as I have their ashes they're spirit has a way it can visit and watch over me if that makes sense. I also have a cowboy hat from my parents that I love as well.

I only keep them while it makes sense. But there's this expensive watch an ex gifted me years ago, I still have the watch and wear it from time to time. I don't wear it because of him in fact is not something I look at and immediately think of my ex, I kept it because I really like the watch and it was an expensive one.

Not often. I once made a necklace for a girlfriend that I held onto for years after the breakup. It wasn't really a sentimental thing though. I was just really proud of the necklace and thought that I might give it someone else or sell it or something.

The necklace just sat around until I eventually gave it to Salvation Army. I didn't realize how much negativity was associated with that necklace until I got rid of it.

The only thing I have kept forever is my music collection. That has travelled with me to 3 different countries even though it has cost me a fortune to ship it all.

I had kept my very first teddy bear until I was 40. Accidentally, it got lost.

Since then I exercise to not keep stuff, unless these are non-physical memories.

I keep sentimental things until it no longer has that sentimental aspect to me anymore. something that may have meant lot to me 5 10 years ago may not mean anything to me now.
