According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, which is behind a pay wall so I can't link it, the average car in the US is 14.5 YEARS OLD.

I’m guessing here so I’m going to guess 14.5 years based on my vehicle which is almost 15 years old. On the flip side there are a lot of jokers on the road that like to text & end up wrecking their vehicles so my second answer is 2.5 years.

Hard one this. I reckon most people buy second hand 3-5 years old but that rules out American cars because they would have fell to bits by then. Taking imports into consideration I'm guess 10 years old.

I only buy American made cars. I keep them for 15 years and 200K miles. I bought a foreign car a long time ago and would never buy one again.

Not true. Many of the cars that have foreign "heritage" that are sold in the US are made here. Also, man companies have fleets of cars that they maintain well, and when sold they are in great shape and last many years.
