I did my weekly food shop yesterday and I only bought cat food and dog food and a few bits for the freezer and it came to over 217 dollars

This is mostly due to inflation, and inflation is what happens when you have a government that allows unchecked mass illegal immigration (which requires hundreds of billions of dollars in aid annually and increases the demand for housing, which increases costs, and reduces available jobs and salaries for legal workers), who mandates vaccines and locks people up in their homes, and then borrows trillions to hand out "free money" that gets paid for by devaluing the dollar and thus effectively lowering your pay while increasing your costs. Oh, and who also hired over a million people for mostly make-work government jobs to make unemployment numbers look better.
Bad economic and other policies have very real and long-term costs - we'll be paying for Biden administration (don't think I believe that Biden himself was running anything - he could barely eat his ice cream - it was really mostly Obama administration people running the show) policies for the next 30 years. It's exactly the same as a credit card - you can max out a $5000 limit credit card in a weekend pretty easily, but paying it back, with interest, is a long and painful process for most people.
It's why Trump is making so many cuts to government expenses. They will hurt in the short term and make his numbers look bad for a while, but it puts the country back on the road to fiscal responsibility and fiscal health - something most would agree that the country desperately needs.20 Reply

8 moNope, food is not expensive enough yet here in America First MAGA Land. It needs to get to the point that these MAGA filth are starving and the food supply is jeopardized for them to realize they are voting against themselves to fund yachts for billionaires.
They were willing to die rather than take the Covid-19 vaccine. It will be the same with food prices under this MAGA administration and Project 2025. The fuckers are gonna need to starve to learn just how bad their choices are.
Let the learnin commence to happenin Billy Bob and Jolene.

Cat food and dog food are not for you and to be seen separately.
Yes, it is getting more expensive.
How much food do you throw away per week or month or year?
Everyone who throws food away needn't to say it is too expensive.
If you dont throw any food away: perfect
It is just to think about what you need and what else to spoil from time to time.
Cat and dog are "luxury". Not everyone can have pets - costs for veterinary and food are much. Accessories maybe.
For me it is affordable. Usually make a list on paper what to buy. And do not buy much else. Of course you can plan what you cook, do meal prep and that can save much money. As long it is not necessary I don't so that work for me. Could be useful to see the costs.10 Reply
9 moThat's crazy.
I shopped with my mom few days ago, we were buying gifts for our company's staffs. We got 8 sets of dinner set (those plates and bowls), 8 sets of glasses (1 set had 4 beautiful glasses), 5 set of lunchbox set including steel water bottle, 8 sets of clothes iron, 10 packes of wafer chocolates (25 in one pack), 8 packs of choco pies (one pack has 10 I guess), 5 packs of dates, 2 packs of cashews, 1 pack of almonds, 10 boxes of sweets and few more things I can't remember right now and few more things for home too. And it all ended up a little less than 26,000 inr. Which I guess is around 270-300 usd.
Now we got it from a shop which is Indian equivalent to Wallmart with discounts and offers but it's still crazy seeing the difference.

9 moWell I don’t disagree , I’ve absolutely noticed the change in prices but since shopping per month is still a small proportion of my budget / income I feel it less than the more financially disadvantaged.
The uk has went though a period of almost hyper inflation which seems to be leveling off now thankfully.
It has made me a little more conservative Nd choosy about where I shop though , some retailers have definitely increased considerably more than their costs have and I just refuse to have my pants pulled down.00 Reply- 1.6K opinions shared on Other topic.
9 moIt's getting really expensive. That's why I'm so glad I don't have kids and I went vegan. I can make one meal a day and get through 2 or 3 weeks without shopping for anything besides fresh fruits and veggies. Which doesn't cost much for me because I buy groceries for myself and my roommate buys her own groceries.
Best place to shop these days is Aldi if you have one. Their foods are significantly cheaper than most grocery stores.01 Reply- 9 mo
We have aldi in the uk too
826 opinions shared on Other topic. You are right. We went shopping this week and the bill for a little was over $300. NY Strip Steaks were $100 for 4 of them. Biden inflated our money by 40% and that cannot be undone.
Yet people with food stamps are getting $4,000 a month and complaining that they can’t use it for junk food anymore. One woman was bragging that she used it for decorative pumpkins for her porch.

9 moIt's insane. Our animal shelters now have free dog and cat food. It doesn't matter what your income is, everyone qualifies. Maybe your city has the same. I volunteer at a food bank and 95% of our clients work full-time. We understand. ✌️🙏

8 moI'm not sure the adjective "too" is appropriate since that implies something one can no longer do.
We can still buy groceries, but they are, overall, more expensive than they used to be.
00 Reply 16.6K opinions shared on Other topic. I wouldn't throw in the dog and cat food with food shopping for yourself if we're looking at prices.
Depending on the brand of animal food you bought I can easily see half of the 217$ being for the dog and cat food.
00 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Other topic. I don't do a lot of grocery shopping while at school. When I do, it is crazy expensive for just the essentials.

Inflation keeps going up and the value of the dollar keeps going down. However I spend that much on a good amount of groceries, so it sounds like you are irresponsible when it comes to purchasing and budgeting.
00 Reply13K opinions shared on Other topic. It has been out of control since Biden got into office. The rise has slowed a lot in the last year. I doubt that it will ever go down to where it was before Biden was president.
00 Reply17.1K opinions shared on Other topic. Dog & cat food & a few things for the freezer at $217. Pet food must be crazy expensive. But yes groceries like almost everything else is getting expensive.

8 moIt is definitely getting more expensive, as is everything else. That is due in large part to the hidden tax increases of inflation of the money supply.
