Is there a loneliness epidemic?

I know , as usual, I am the exception to the rule here. I don't use social media for anything but fun. I'm not looking to make friends, lovers or fill some kind of loneliness. I mean, don't get me wrong, if I make friends that's awesome too, it's just not my main reason for being here. (Main reason is to feed my awesome narcissism 🤣)

I also have very little experience with social media, I use one discord room for a writing site and at one point I will shamefully confess I was a tiktok girl for a short while with an account long ago and long since deleted. I don't text, often forget my phone and don't care, and am on no other social media but G@G. It just isn't important to me. But being a small town, country girl with little real world experience coming here has been an amazing eye opener. I very much enjoy reading the opinions and view from others all over the world. I am learning many new things by the day and I thank all of you for that. Thank you.💖

I have also learned, sadly, that many people feel lonely these days. I was amazed to learn how long some people had been coming here and talking to others to fill that void. I didn't realize how big the internet had become in replacing actual human interaction. I didn't realize there was something called a "loneliness epidemic" tho THIS article says there isn't one.

And so today, I ponder, What do you think? Is there a loneliness epidemic? Is the internet a positive way to counter it? Is that why you're here?
