How would you feel if someone apologized to you about something they did long ago that you forgot about?

I've done this before myself. where looking way back now i realize i was wrong doing a certain act or saying something bad but when i apologized they completely forgot about it or thought it wasn't a huge deal.

I just wonder how a person might think about someone doing that.

I would appreciate that

It really depends on what they did that they are apologizing for (even if i forgot about it)

Depends on what it is. From my experience, some people apologise for extremely mild things that don’t require an apology, in order to open the door and come back into your life - most often toxic people who are faking remorse. In which case, I’d rather they just keep their “apology” to themselves and leave me alone.


But on the (very) rare occasion, someone has genuinely apologised to me for something horrible that happened years ago, and while I had already healed and moved on from what happened, it was still helpful to hear an apology and learn that they’d never forgotten about it - clearly it had been playing on their mind for a while in order for them to apologise now.

What if it was the first one but they didn’t care if it opened the door or not and were ok with just giving you the apology and thats it?

It would still feel unnecessary and I would be skeptical. Why dredge up things from the past that don’t matter? Things that are so minor that the “victim” of the incident doesn’t remember it?

Im all for clearing your conscience and getting something off your chest, but when it’s about something so minuscule, it is just dragging someone into your own shame.

So i suppose to them it wouldn’t seem ‘minuscule’ but found out it was to the person they are apologizing to it was to them.

And yeah i think it is a ‘clearing their conscience’ thing mainly in that instance

I don't know what other ethnicities do it but me as Mexican real Mexican just laugh most of things off, even if it is rude. I have a gay 60 something year old uncle, my 50 year old uncle hey you like him as company. me in my mind f no not even in picture take him he's all yours.
