Has anyone ever indirectly apologize to you? how did you handle it?

Recently I realized someone indirectly apologized to me by congratulating me while their voice was cracked up a little bit almost like they’re about to cry. I was confused at the moment, but realized later it was their guilt from our history that we never talked about. I was being the bigger person by genuinely smiling & thanked them. Added small things to the conversation to lighten up the mood. It was a tad bitter sweet, but I accepted that now we could at least end on a good note and move forward with life.

I have had experiences like that, sometimes an outright "sorry" isn't needed because you feel the vibe they're going for. In fact, just an apology without deeply feeling apologetic can feel a lot worse to receive.

I think that’s good you have an open heart to forgive like that! You seemed like a really nice person. I think for me, I have forgiven many times even when it’s not spoken nor has it been direct apologies. But I also learned it’s not always okay and a direct apology is needed depending on the situations and to have self-respect.

If it's indirect then it's not an apology. I definitely wouldn't pay any attention to it and that a major red flag cause it said to me they can't admit when they are wrong

Most people can't apologize at all so when someone apologizes that way I'm grateful that they're at least able to do that. It's better than nothing.

Very true, I also appreciate people who can give genuine apologies. It’s also sad a lot of people can’t say sorry. But my question is how do you handle if someone indirectly apologize to you.
