Have you ever apologized for giving your opinion to someone in the moment?

Was at a party.

Some gal I’ve never met before sat squarely in front of me and stared at my chest while she sipped her wine. "Girl, I've gotta tell you -- and let me preface by saying I'm totally straight and not trying to be weird here, but -- you've really just got the perfect boobs."

I didn't react, presuming I misheard bc (1) she had no reason to be so familiar with me, (2) the room was loud, and (3) there's no way anyone would actually be THAT rude, right?

Wrong... And there she was, still staring.

A guy who overheard craned his neck to get a look.

I raised my eyebrow and look at the guy, who quickly clears his throat and walks away. Then I look at the gal. "Sorry, it’s so loud in here I didn't understand you."

So she said it again.

I rocked back on my heels, my drink in hand casually shifting up to cover the goods praying my date would show up soon. "Thank you. You're very... direct. I like your dress." (A very nice conservative dress... You'd never know she was such a rude little pervert. Smh.)

Was so relieved when my date (another long story) materialized to save me from this bold chick.

I’ve said stuff to people that’s very direct, but I usually preface with an apologetic “Not to be too direct, but…” or “Stop me when you feel I’m being too nosy…” bc I understand that MY boundary of propriety might be higher or lower set than those of the folks I’m talking to.

What do you do when you’re about to say something too personal or too direct to someone?
