Do you take your shoes off before entering your home?

Not before, but once inside and the front door shut, yah. It's a good idea. If the home has an entryway type chamber between the front door and the rest of it, even better. or better still to get totally utopian, a similar spot between the back door and the rest of the house. I suppose a garage side door to the backyard and a space in the garage for shoe changing would do in a pinch.

I didn't grow up with the concept, but after friends (and later intimates) of the East Asian persuasion entered my life, that custom of theirs just made total sense to me.

Of course, logistically, you need to have the entry set up just right: chair (s) or a good bench seat ready, a series of boxes or a shoe "tree", a place for the polish from the dressy office ones, a half bathroom right by the front door for that urgent need to "go" before getting shoes off just in case, and a sink to rinse and clean out the cleats, tread shoes and/or work boot shoes of mud and other crud.

I  never  remove them before entering. I do wipe them on the outside and inside mats before walking on the carpet. I don't mind walking around in my house with them on. But if I plan to stay inside, I remove them for comfort once I'm inside the door. When I was growing up, nobody I knew removed their shoes when entering a house. And in all my life, I've only met a few people who did. I never even saw anybody on TV or in movies who did. I can't imaging going to dinner or a party at someone's house and being asked to remove my shoes. I can't imagine elegantly dressed people at opulent parties walking around without their expensive shoes.

Yeah, esp this time of year bc the snow/salt etc would run the floors. But also in the summer so I don't get dirt and sand everywhere.

Only an older person who needs their shoes on keeps them on at home.

Yes. Walking in heels on expensive Italian marble plates would be a crime and I have a floor heating system that make walking even barefoot pleasant in winter.

99% of the time I'm entering the house from the garage and I have Shoe racks right at the door into the house. So my shoes come off before I enter and I put them on when I go out again. There are exceptions of course. If I'm working on something in the house or using my home gym for instance.

I don't, unless they're covered in dirt and mud, which would result in me cleaning them after taking them off. I am ALL about a clean living space, but I can't stand these no shoes in the house nazis, they are SO overbearing. They can kiss my ass, seriously.

Yes. But not to avoid dirt. I hate wearing shoes. They cramp your feet and make them sweat. I barefoot it at every opportunity. I would rather feel the universe between my toes. When the risk of damaging my feet is low, I barefoot it outside too.

What's the point? Unless you walked in a mud puddle or dog shit, you're shoes aren't gonna dirty the carpet and, if they do, we have vacuum cleaners! In the meantime, not everyone's feet are devoid of germs and fungus and it gets all over the carpet and who knows where else it gets!! As kids, we all used to lie on the carpet constantly to watch t. v.!!

Yeah, I request it in my home. Even my gym doesn't allow outside shoes to be worn in their studio. If you need to wear shoes or sandals inside the home you can always have pairs for home use.
