I tried one time with the cable guy he refused when I was a teenager. A while ago when we washed the all tile floor in this house we are trying to flip recently and we met the real estate guy we had him take his shoes off, but we don't really do that. That's mostly a Chinese and Japanese custom. My Chinese sport trainer and friend had me taking my shoes off when I went to his house
It's not just a Chinese/Japanese custom. You should broaden your horizon
Everyone does it automatically here.
Unless it’s a formal thing then we tell people not to.
Never understood the formal dinner exceptions. What do you do after it's over? Replace all the carpets or get them all to a dry cleaner?
@bubble_tea mop/vacuum/spot clean. Part of it is that formal shoes tend to have no treads hence track FAR less dirt around.
Yes, but in winter.. people wear winter boots with treads so they don't break their necks walking down the streets.
@bubble_tea if I was going to something formal at someone’s house in winter and wanted shoes indoors I’d wear overshoes. My wife would probably wear boots and carry heels to change into.
Yes everyone takes their shoes off before coming in my house. If they don't want to they can stay outside.
Most people have no issues with it and will take their shoes off on the porch.
I don't wear street shoes in my house and I scrub the bottoms of my shoes off with hot pinesol water every so often.
Yes. I have a shoe rack that people may place their shoes. If they don’t have socks I insist they wear slippers. I wear slippers

Yes and no. I'm fine with people walking around the house with their shoes on. But I'm not the one in charge of the house.
It all depends. If they're coming in to sit and chill, walk on the hard wood and rugs, yes, I make them take off their shoe upon entering. If they're stopping by to use my washroom or to pick up something and it isn't a snowy or rainy day out, I'm less fussy.
I don't make them. They do it anyway, because as a kid, we were taught it's unhygienic and not good manners to enter someone's home without taking off shoes and I'm so glad I don't have to ask them because I'm a cleanliness freak.
Argh!!! Sjdkfjdjsiydvkjdtst!!

Then I'll kill you, lol. I mop the floor 3 times before I feel like it's clean again, so yeah, I'll kill you if you enter before taking off your shoes 😒
And NO COOKIES FOR YOU, MISTER! ✋😑
I always find it weird how people in movies and TV shows always have their shoes on at home. Not even just guests but the people who live there, they spend their time at home in shoes? Who does that?
Unless it's a very quick visit, why would I even want to keep my shoes on when I enter a house/flat and stay there?
Yes, in our country it is a must or else you'd be called rude. My boyfriend didn't know this at first but I told him about it.
No, but that being said, I only rent. If I owned the carpet, I would maybe do this.
Nah, I don't really care if the shoes are not muddy or dusty.
Manners, for one. Two, you never know what's been stepped in in those shoes. Take them off.
No. Generally, they all do anyway but I never ask it of them.
@fakawoman Of course?
@fakawoman no.
I live in Sweden so of course that is a requirement. Otherwise the floors would be caked in mud every spring and flooded with water every winter.
I don't bother. We have hardwood floors, and pets. I just always wear flip-flops or slippers around the house.
Not before entering, but right after entering. Most people automatically take off their shoes along with their jackets anyway.
It’s something i do in my culture. So yes shoes must be off and socks or slippers must be worn
I let guests keep them on if they desire that. If you live in the house you have to take them off.
Hell yeah. I don't want my flooring touched by everything their shoes have touched.
I wouldn't make them do that but if i did they gotta come in socks for sure
It is practice to do so here so I don't have to tell them
Yes, because it brings all the stuff outside inside the house
They can if they want to, but I would never make anyone do that.
No. But I had plans to. Unfortunately Fiances dogs made that not feasable.
