First of all I'm really sorry to anyone outside of the States , for asking this question, since , you prolly don't have State flowers out side of the States. Maybe you can post if you have country flowers or something? I dunno. I'm just trying to be polite and stuff but I guess you can post anything about flowers if you want to. Some people smoke them, you know. Anyways...

My state of Maine is kind of weird to begin with. Like, we have laws that you can't push a moose out of an airplane. I'm not sure why that is a law but it is and it seems to be working since I've never seen anyone push a moose out of an airplane. And at least it's better than the Alaska law that you can't drink with a moose. Moose are fun to drink with. As long as you don't push them out of airplanes.

Anyways, when it comes to official State Flowers we are no less weird. Other states have such really pretty flowers like lady slippers, lilacs and roses! And what does Maine have, you ask? A pine cone. That's right. A fucking pine cone! Who the hell thought this was a good idea? I mean, it's not even a damn flower! Does anyone ever go to the flower shop and say, "Oh, I'd like a bouquet of pine cones, please!" Like, wtf? And Valentines Day is coming right up, so, yeah, sure, give me a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine and a dozen pine cones and just watch me swoon. Right. And planning the flower garden for spring? Don't forget the pine cones! I could prolly go on and on...

But all this brings me to todays question, What is your Official State Flower? (<-- Link)

No need to apologize, we're equally weird in having a national flower. It is Golden Wattle and is on our coat of arms.

More importantly we derive our sporting colors of green and gold from the golden wattle. So it is a big deal.

There is even a national wattle day.

My state of Victoria has common pink heath as the state flower; not very exciting and frankly nearly as boring as pine cones.

When I thought about it, it occurred to me pine cones might be - in purist botanical way - fruit rather than flower. Google say it is neither fruit nor flower but is a strobili.

So you are right to feel aggrieved with your politicians who were too dumb to not google first, let alone consider how poor a bouquet of pine cones would be.

LOL, I had to look it up. Connecticut's state flower is the Mountain Laurel. I've lived here for a while and I'm out in the woods and mountains all the time. I have never seen a Mountain Laurel plant. Not one.

Personally, I would have chosen the tiger lily. They are everywhere here and apparently do just fine in this climate.

It's the daffodil. They're starting to bloom now and will all spring. Pretty much everyone child gets dumped in a field of daffodils for a cute photo. You can pretty much guarantee in every school some kid will identify as a daffodil. Men dress up as daffodils to go to sporting events and women carry giant inflatable daffodils on hen nights. And if you can't afford chocolates a big bunch of daffodils are a good substitute on valentines day

In California it's the poppy and it's against the law to pick them.
Of course I didn't know that when I was 14 and picked some and made a little bouquet. My mom took a picture of me holding them and I showed it to my friends at school.🏫 That's when I found out it was against the law to pick them.
They have poppy seeds in them. Which if you eat them and then get a drug test, it will test positive for opiates and they will believe that you are using drugs and you won't pass the test and probably won't get the job that you applied for because the company will get your test results and think 🤔 you're on opiate drugs. Seriously!!

I live in WI and our state flower is the blue violet. I see them all over in spring and they are really pretty but they look purple to me 🤷 What's spring like in Maine? When I had my first spring in WI, I thought it was so beautiful! From dead trees and snow covered land, to the most beautiful growth of flowers and the trees actually turning green again!

We have national flower which is the Thistle.
More interestingly, since US is all elephant and donkey as their animal identity, I can say being UNICORNS as an identity defeats all (though dragons @purplepoppy are up there) for being out of this world identifiers.

Meadows are full of poppy flowers here. Mostly smaller common poppy which don't contain lot of that particular stuff but aren't edible.
Bereadseed poppy seeds can be grind and it's main ingredient of poppy seed cake. It taste like almonds with honey and drug wipe test will be positive after eating.
