Can Tiny Be A Real Nickname?

It can but it is also a demeaning nickname because whoever calls that person "Tiny", makes fun of either the height of that person or something else that can be associated with them.

One should never use names that may hurt people's feelings because of a shortcoming or because of something they have done in the past, like calling someone "Thief" as nickname because they were once caught stealing something.

It would never come to my mind to call someone with a nickname that is unsuitable. People are given first names and that is a good name to go by rather than to use potentially hurtful nicknames.

Let's sweepingly generalize, why don't you? "Tiny" is often a nickname given to a person who is anything but tiny, but there's no WAY you can assume it's demeaning. It can be very playful and affectionately given.

Anecdotal point: a bar restaurant owner and cook in my old home town was called Tiny by everyone, and he loved it. He introduced himself that way too. He was a very large, robust man. If you were trying to demean him, you'd call him " the Fat Guy" or some other crap. But everyone loved him and knew him as "Tiny", and there were no hurt feelings to be found anywhere. We had another friend who was 6 foot 6 inches and went by " shorty". He LOVED it and introduced himself as " Shorty Smith", which cracked people up and immediately set up a friendly exchange.

What you personally find unsuitable and hurtful isn't written in stone, no matter what the subject, and pronouncing it as such without considering a different perspective doesn't give you the moral high ground.

I once worked with a man who’s nickname was tiny and if you knew his nickname was tiny and he walked up on you it would make you laugh I can only imagine that he got the nickname from sarcasm because he was no way tiny in appearance 😂
