Do you prefer the exposed grey stones or the painted churches?

I love those gray stones. They have their own somber, mystical, epic and medieval castle-ish charm to it. The painted ones also look good (specifically the white and gold ones) looking so neat but they tend to look more familiar because they look more modern.

It's not exactly painted but just white washed, thin, not glossy and just enough to have the stone texture visible. I think this is the sweet spot though they get patchy fast and can look mess but still ancient looking. More common in my region.

Correction. Those are naturally white/light gray stones. Not white washed.
