I read an article that discussed the various ways people think and express their inner thoughts to themselves... People who think in words, images, and concepts... it was an odd feeling to learn that not everyone has a constant inner monologue; linguistically.
I also learned that I cannot actually see images in my mind. That was fun. I had never give that any consideration previously. I can't picture images in my mind. That was such a normalized concept I didn't think anything about it until that moment.
I'm always talking to myself, in full and complete sentences, even while holding conversations with others... I simply run multiple tabs at once. Never a dull moment.
I also read that the mind cannot run two separate thoughts simultaneously, which is a lie. I can listen to a podcast, hold a conversation, and do my job while utilizing short term memory for upwards of 4 numbers held to 3 decimals.
Long answer not given short... Yes. I talk to myself. Always.
The idea is that while it feels simultaneous to you, what you do is actually fast switching from podcast to convo to podcast to convo etc.
The seeing images in your head thing is interesting, isn't it? I can't, either, but people tell me they can see things that aren't there, which I feel is weird. Apparently there's a scale of how real they look, but I guess I'm at zero.
Feynman wrote about that sort of thing; his anecdote was that he told a friend he describes everything to himself internally in words, the response was something like "You know a crankshaft?" - "Yes." - "How did you describe it to yourself?".
@goaded A shaft of predetermined length interrupted at a point near the center by an eccentric shaft sandwiched between two counterweights who's weights are determined by the mass of the piston and connecting rod. My career was description of surgical specimens. Occasionally we would get items remove in the E R from the body orifices of unfortunate individuals who would lose them due to an excess of lubricant or reverse peristalsis. Baseballs, Potatoes, Dildos,
@AMS700CX4u2 Nice job! I would expect more than one eccentric shaft, probably 4, because that's the one I changed out with my father decades ago.

I talk to myself all day every day. I revise things. I review things. I break things down. I practice conversations. I imagine things. I plan things. And throughout it all I am talking to my mind, I am in active conversation with myself - it's like there's me and then there is the inside me that only I can talk to. I think it is something out of habit as I am an identical twin and growing up we went everywhere, did everything together, had the same friends, all the same classes, shared a room. We literally were in convo with each other from the moment we would wake up to the moment we would go to sleep.
With a username like mine I think you know the answer to that one.
Yep, then my therapist told me to ignore him as I was getting into some pretty bad situations
Most people do think in terms of words and sentences, so yes I do.
I play Devil's Advocate with myself from time to time to obtain realistic decisions on complex matters.
Just fun... best fun is with yourself since your humor is best understood by yourself
in my head? I’ll have full conversations aloud
Always... Lol!
Yours probably says ‘hey write this down’ sometimes too huh? Lol
Most of the time... Lol!
Regularly and often.
I sometimes do that
Sometimes I do... very often in fact :P
All the time
