I think it’s just become a figure of speech at this point. Most people aren’t literally implying they lie all the time..
I think they’re just emphasizing that they’re about to be unusually honest or blunt. Kind of like saying, “Honestly…”
True but, it SOUNDS like that's what they're saying.
In a world where EVERYTHING is as much of a shortcut as it can be, why would they say all those words instead of just saying, "honestly?
Sure 🫢...
(the silence)
@browsingthroughthe ngl, brb, ttyl, cyl, byob, bmoc, gbltq, bmf, rsvp, etc..
that's just an expression... and it means they're about to drop a hot take... which is another expression, that means, they're about to keep it real, keep it a 100... which is also an expression... lol
So, today, everybody's an expressionist?
expressions are nothing new... "chill out"
Neither are jokes. Have a couple luudes.
True?
What judges and cops must think when they hear it 🫢
Or lawyers. A client starts a sentence with "I'm not even gonna lie" - uhhhhhh
They must get accused of lying all the time. Perhaps in their circle it's common place to fib.
Could be. So far, the ONLY times I've ever said that I wasn't lying is when someone accused me of doing so or looked like they didn't trust what I just told them. I think the last time I said that was about 40 years ago. Maybe 50.
Honestly, I must admit I've said it to a younger group which is where I picked it up. But I said it in a funky voice as in mimicking.
How's that for a play on words, and topic?
It’s a figure of speech
I know but, it sounds stupid.
Ngl. Not gonna lie. Implies that the person is being truthful.
