The main news headlines today in the UK is someone has spotted a jellyfish on the beach and we've all been told to be very careful.
Here in Wales, jellyfish are known as pysgod wibli wobli (wibbly wobbly fish) or as cont y môr (sea cunt) depending on your location.
Regardless of what you call them, it's important to listen to the government and stay at least 5 miles from the sea. But have you ever been stung by a jellyfish?

If they sell it in England, you should get one for a small occasion one or two people. Nice for a little barbecue. But of course I’ve had real big ones in my backyard.

Correct, cause we use vinegar. Fair Dinks on northern beaches there are poles with a box containing a vinegar bottle. You have to get some one to pull the stingers out because if you don't they will pump more poison in.
Yup. Head to toe. All the time, lol. At a New England beach where I love to body surf we'll get thousands of juvenile Lion's Mane jellyfish washing inshore after a storm. The Lion's Mane is supposedly the world's largest jellyfish and can grow up to 7 feet (2.33 meters) across. But the ones we get are always 10-12 inches across. Some are whole but the surf seems to break them apart so you'll get the water literally covered in jellyfish and jellyfish parts small enough that you can't see them to avoid them.
It's impossible to NOT get stung everywhere. Luckily they are annoying not life threatening. Maybe a 2 on a scale of 1-10. And the sting fades fast. Maybe 5-10 min for me. And throwing on a shorty wetsuit protects most of your body. But I usually don't even bother. Other people react differently to the stings and throw a fit. But to me they are just cool but annoying.
Our Chinese markets sell jelly fish as a dietary food, and I love the taste! I do not know if the grocery stores sell it, but a lot Asian restaurants sell it. I love jelly fish! it is tasty with chopped carrots and pickle juice. I might go there the next time I hang out with my female friends, instead of going to a sushi buffet.
Yeah, while fishing in Norway I pulled gloves off and touched unintentionally some glibbery stuff on fishing line as I changed bait. It burned a little bit but they don't kill like those from Australia or south Atlantic. Here in Baltic sea they are harmless and don't even burn. You can swim in them like in jelly.

When I was a teen, while swimming in the sea very near the beach, I didn't notice immediately the jellyfish ("kwal" in Flemish) between my legs. You have no idea how painful that became after a few minutes, with fever and nothing to help calming down the burning sensation during a few days. Since then I stay as far as possible away from those develish animals...
Once and I will never go back into the ocean again. That little asshole got stuck between my legs and stung me all inside my inner thighs and groin area. Not fun at all to say the least. I don't live anywhere near a beach now so it won't be an issue.
As for the stingray that got me that was an ouch & by the time I got to my beach chair my leg went numb & like a stupid asshole I had a drink with my father & we went back in the water. As for the jellyfish over the course of the summer it was over 20 times. The jellyfish where I live knock on wood aren’t really aren’t too dangerous & I’m not allergic or didn’t have an allergic reaction in any way. Usually when I get stung I wipe the stingers off with wet sand for a few minutes & after that I have spray I always bring with me. Days later the itching drives me normal.
I have not. But during an invasion of small jelly fish, a friend got one down his swim trunks while body surfing. Nothing debilitating or permanent, but he said it stung like crazy. After that, I decided not to surf when jelly fish were around.
Surprisingly no despite my bad luck. I haven't even been stung by a bee or wasp despite living in an extremely hot and humid place. I have been bit by mosquitoes and bit by ants though... not fun. Do not go out in the grass in flip flops or other open toed shoes.
Yes, it was many years ago. I was in Australia, trying to learn to body surf at Surfers Paradise. A small jelly fish got me on the ankle. It hurt for a while, felt better after one of the locals poured beer on the wound.
As for me I live by the coast so when it comes to aquatic life sometimes I have encounters. As for being stung by a jelly fish YES I HAVE & in fact over 20 something times. In addition a stingray got me & my leg went numb & got swollen.
One of the very benign ones. I don't know what sub-species it was, but I can safely say this based on the symptoms. The water was full of them that day in Corpus Christi.
Depends on the jelly. People say with the box jelly fish you just wish you would die. The more southern Australian ones are more annoying. The box jellyfish is prevalent through SE Asia.
Supposedly panty hose stops you from being stung. Don't know if that is true.
