Not that she wants a "conflict" diamond because it is one, but because she sees a diamond and wants it and doesn't care that it is a conflict diamond.

The way I see it is...it's a very terrible thing that happens, but no matter what..ppl are always still gonna want diamonds and these rings will still be produced. I'm sure she's not fully aware that this happens or that she knows the specific ring is conflict diamond and when ring shopping this is the last thing that will be on her mind. I say the most you can do is educate her some more on this and allow her to make a decision.

So to basically sum it up...u can't get rele look at the girl differently because she wants a diamond ring( especially since this idea has been put into females minds from young). I'm sure she feels sympathy, but the ring is already made and is there in front of her, so by her not getting it..it's not rele gonna stop this trade from happening. As for me, if I found out the ring I wanted is a conflict ring, I'd opt for one that isn't instead (if that's possible).

I would never buy or ask for conflict diamonds. Maybe one person not buying them won't make a world of a difference, but I couldn't wear a ring if I knew people were tortured over it and others used it to fund their war and violence. I want no part in something like that.

I couldn't look at a the ring and associate it with love and commitment when its origins involve selfishness, suffering, and death. That's just how I'd feel about it if I was aware of its history, and I'd hope my significant other could understand and respect that. I'm not really interested in a diamond ring anyway, silver or gold rings would be more to my taste.

No, I would not buy a "conflict diamond" intentionally. I would do my best to make sure that it is a clean safe diamond, but there is only so much I could do. I would go through the Kimberly Process, and hopefully it is a clean conflict-free diamond.

I would not buy anyone a diamond, conflict or not. It is absurd that some people value something that is so expensive and ultimately has no utilitarian use. Can it tell the future? Can it read minds? Grant wishes? Let's take that few thousand and go on a vacation instead. Also, the only reason why this tradition began was because of product placement in Hollywood.

They are more commonly referred to as Blood Diamonds. In reference to the amount of blood often spilled to get a diamond to your high street shop.

In all honesty, I highly doubt that the majority of people - men or women - would intentionally choose to buy a diamond that cost lives and blood shed because of it. Like really, there are some shallow and superficial people in the world but not a lot would even cross that line if they fully knew and grasped the history of blood diamonds.

Blood Diamonds are purchased by consumers with the "ignorance is bliss" concept; a lot of them just don't know. It never occurred to them what this diamond actually cost people during the process of its being made. Consumers buy the diamond because it's a diamond. 'Nuff said.

If she was so narrow minded and dense as to not see the sacrifice it takes so that ignorant western girls can get a diamond for the cheap I wouldn't like her to begin with or at least talk to her and try to change her mind.. it would definitely lead to an impasse and I wouldn't purchase it and put more money into the trade.

I wouldn't bother buying blood diamonds. Canada's a big player in the diamond industry anyway that I wouldn't have a need to. I don't care if an African diamond is Kimberly Processed or not. Canadian ones are (we were key in getting the process started in the first place), and buying them supports my country's economy, so it's a win-win for me.

Nope I'd dump them on the spot. If they care more about their jewelry than innocent lives they are the ones that deserve to suffer. Don't buy diamonds, period. You have no bullet proof way of getting diamonds that people weren't murdered over. It's already been admitted that the Kimberly Process is very corrupt and does very little of stopping the flow of blood diamonds.

Those diamond will be bought by brokers and laundered into the general flow of diamonds relatively quickly. Many diamonds that are seen as clean, were once blood diamonds. The profit is too high for it not to happen.

inflate the prices of diamonds... Really I never understood the appeal of diamonds. There are so many other things that are far more precious in my mind... I can take table sugar and mix it with muriatic acid acid to run a dehydration reaction and get pure or close to pure carbon... Witht he right pressure and heat that becomes a diamond. A company make large artificial diamonds in my home state. =)

Gotta let go of that man. Africa is your heritage and your blood. Not reason to forsaken them. I have many African friends and they are so similar to black people in America. They love the same music, they are very friendly, they have a lot of similarities. History has delt Africans a bad hand but I think in the future they will definitely improve, look at countries like Nigeria they are growing and becoming modern very quickly. my 2 cents.
