Some aren't used to it. So anything gross or scary is REALLY scary. For me... seeing a guys eyes hollowed out; well I've seen it in a bunch of movies. I know it's fake (and being a special effects geek, I may have already learned how it was done), so it's not as big a deal. But seeing that for the first time, it's much more of a big deal.
There's all those weird cooties messing with their brains, fogging up their heads. Making them weepy. ;) (kidding!)
I think that they get more invested in things differently than guys tend to. Guys tend to like action movies. Many girls don't. Many like horror, probably in part because we're played with as kids rougher. We learn not to cry in front of our friends if we don't want to get mocked. So our experiences are different. Fear in some sense is more fun for us. We get used to the rough housing a bit more.
I see a lot of babies (I teach little ones). Guess who I see getting more games of "peekaboo"? The boys. We tend to socialize them to little bits of "fun-scary" experiences earlier. You hide your face, some babies may think you've disappeared. That's scary. Then we pop with yell of "Peekaboo!" It's a surprise, then you laugh, so they learn to laugh. Plus, they were startled, but then there was a silly noise; so the adrenaline, then the weird noise, then not being in any danger, makes them realize it's like a game. So they get more used to "scary" experiences and learn that it's fun if it's controlled.
Although there are a few who think it's funny. A bunch of us went to a "haunted" corn maze. We would jump out and scare the girls in our group more than the kids who were paid to do it. It was hilarious. They'd freak, then run around screaming; come back laughing, we'd have disappeared again only to jump out again.
Because guys can defend themselves more easily. The majority of girls live in constant fear of the male gender. Many girls I know are absolutely terrified of being raped yet the reported rapes in my city are like 3 per decade. So much so that they will not sleep in a house that does not have at least one male in the house at the same time.
hah. I'm the kind that is REALLY difficult to scare. and when I do get scared I just jump for a split second. no screaming and no running and no crying. to be honest, the only reason I think other girls do that stuff is to either get attention, act cute, or make you feel really really bad. but as for me, I just shake it off and laugh along with the guys who scared me :)
um i don't really agree with some of the other answers...not all girls that get scared act that way to get attention, be "cute," etc. some of us (like me) are just really easily scared and can't really control how we react to scary things. its kinda just a gut reaction really
I was raised around guys I don't do none of that but I do hit people by accident lol. It's funny though cause I try to scare my brother and when I do it's the funniest thing to watch "O SHIT!" trying to karate chop me when I'm 3ft off the ground and he's a damn palm tree.

I have come to understand that almost every question regarding male and female can be explained by primal, biological and survival reasons, so my answer for this would be because compared to men, women are less capable of defending themselves physically, for example, against a lion, so I guess genetically they have evolved to become easier to be scared, more risk averse, which increase their chance of physical survival.
Because guys are immature and tend to go a little over board to where it isn't funny but more along the lines of Wtf were you thinking.
We do have more estrogen you know! :) It's just a feminine thing. Women usually are more scared than a man is.
I don't scream or cry over this :/ , I am not that sensitive.
