He suggested a double date. what does it mean guys?

so I've been getting to know this guy for quite some time and I haven't even met him yet. he texts me a lot and asked me if I wanted to meet up Friday but he said "we should go on a doube date with one of my buddies and a girl". that has always been a red flag to me. what that tells ME is that he doesn't really want one on one time and the fact that I'll be meeting HIM for the first time and now two other people just makes me feel super awkard alltogether. I'm a straight forward girl so I texted him back and said "um why a double date? just curious"...he replied "idk my friend really wants to hang out with me on Friday but I really want to see you".

i guess what he said is true about him wanting to see me. he asked me what's the earliest I'm free and if I was free on Thursday and I said no. then I said I'm free Saturday and that's when he said "well you have Fridays off right?" and he suggested the double date.. maybe I'm just reading too much into this? idki need some advice.

I would do a double date just if I was nervous. It's easier to go out with someone when I can always fall back on my friend/his girlfriend in terms of conversation rather then talking one on one with someone you don't know.

At least then the conversation won't die down as fast and you can still get to know the person.

Ppl who like to double date usually do it for safety or security reasons, and no its not all about money because some girls/ guys aren't comfortable being with their dates alone so double dating lets them bring a friend that makes them more comfortable. it gives them a piece of mind I guess.

he is probably nervous and would feel comfortable with familiar people around to break the tension.
