My ex boyfriend asked me on a double date?

umm so we were just hanging out and out of nowhere, he proceeds to ask me if I wanted to go on a double date with his friend. his friend would be bringing his girlfriend. my ex boyfriend and I both know that we cannot and never will work out, so why would he ask me on a double date? we're not dating so I don't know what to think of this. any insights would be greatly appreciated :/
