Is it normal for a mom to shower with 3 year old son?

Hey, my girlfriend and her 3 year-old kid just moved in with me. The kid talks really well and knows how to do a lot of stuff physically, he locked me out of my own room for a second!

Anyways, to all of the moms out there, is it normal to shower and bath with a 3 year old? Better question, what age did was your kid when they stopped showering with you?

Well I can tell you my experience with something along these lines.

Till about two years ago I would have said that I would have never showered with a kid but then my ex and I took the trailer to a camping ground about 600 miles away from home for a month and her aunt dumped their two kids (4 & 5 I think, boy & girl) with us for the whole time. So in staid of a all the way party vacation I got to try out my role as parental figure. An interesting experience and I have to say that I learned quite a lot and about some stuff I changed my opinion.

Anyway back to my point. These two kids were not grown up so there was much stuff they couldn't or wouldn't do by themselves. Like for example they were scared of going into the shower at the faculties at the camping site even if I or my ex was right in front of the door nor they knew how to wash themselves. So the only thing that could we could do was take the kids with us when one of use went to take a shower. The kids had no problems with it everyone that had to be washed got washed and cleaned up and they were even playing around and having fun splashing water everywhere because it was a shower and water was spraying everywhere anyway.

When we got home we asked their parents (my ex's aunt and her husband) about a couple of things that we didn't know how to handle and had to figure out by ourselves. They said it was fine and that there's no other way that this could have been done and they do it the same way.

Besides kids run around naked at the beach half of the time anyway and what do they care if they see a couple of naked butts witch is a funny thing to them anyway. One of the kids even laughed and said that I have a black spot on my butt and I pointed out to her that she has spots on his butt too and they both started laughing like crazy because I said they had "little butts" and they didn't care much about anything else.

So I don't know I don't see much of a problem with kids showering with parental figures if they can handle the responsibility.

No it isn't normal for gods sake. My Dad taught me to shower with me when I was very young but that was it. Mothers should teach their daughters and fathers teach their sons.

But the reason society accepts mothers doing this crap with their sons and it's horrible if a father did any of that with a daughter just shows how stupid our society is.

Same way female pedophiles aren't thought of as that bad. This society has no common sense.

I don't think it's weird at that age. My boyfriend sometimes has his son hop in the shower with him, and he's four, very intelligent. The boy will also have his own separate baths if timing/living situation allows, or my guy has showered already. Yesterday, they took a shower at my house, but my boyfriend had his son hop out pretty quick because my shower is pretty tight quarters, lol, and he wanted to limit 'balls at face level' to as little time as possible. =P Also my guy had a job interview yesterday [got the job!] and we were kind of in a hurry for that. I caught the kid with a towel, dressed him and combed his hair, then he went straight back to playing with my dog, and it felt normal enough to me.

My best friend also has her five year old daughter shower with her on occasion. Usually she has her own bath at different times, but sometimes it's just easier to bathe at the same time.

So usually I think it's a matter of convenience, saving time, coordinating schedules, and making sure the child can wash themselves properly. I don't think the sex of the child matters all that much.

I don't remember showering with either of my parents, but I'm sure I did at some point. I know that my parents stopped assisting during bath times when I was about five, except to help me wash my hair. But that's mainly because I could do everything else just fine by myself.

When we have a kid or two together, we'll probably do things the same way. Showering together isn't a big deal, and we probably will when it's more convenient. Otherwise we'll likely bathe them before bed a couple times a week. But scheduling things like that doesn't always work, kids and life are unpredictable, haha.

Tbh, I feel like if it was a dad with his daughters it would be different. But I don't know vaginas aren't as obtrusive as penises lol. If that is all he knows, I think it would be scary for him to go in the shower or the bathtub. Plus if it's her first or only child, it's wicked scary for parents to let their children shower or bathe alone, as my mom and grandmother would always say "It only takes a second!". When my gma would watch us I was like 8 and she didn't let me bath in over 2 inches of water, and it would have been a serious effort on my part to drown in 2 inches of water at age 8. But that's how mothers are, they care and they are overprotective at time of their children. Also my little brother, not the brightest bulb couldn't take showers until he was much much older because like an idiot he would keep his mouth open and choke and drown in the shower -_- So he only took baths haha. So maybe it's a combination of her son being kind of afraid of being alone in the water when it comes down to it, he may act brave and manly on his own but once he is in the bathroom ask for his mum; and he being overprotective of her son.

They are still practically babies.

I dislike how America over sexualizes everything.

Can't someone just enjoy their kids?

Also, my kid "thinks" he knows everything too it's just a stage they go through.

I was given a bath up until I was 5 or 6?  But my mom gave me a bath up until that age and then I showered by myself. When I really wanted to shower because I thought it was cool since I wasn't really allowed to take them, I'd get to shower with my mom or my sister. It's normal at that age. I think it'd be off if it was a father and his daughter. The kid isn't really old enough yet to shower by themselves. They could slip and fall/seriously injure themselves. I'd say once the kid hits 4 or 5, that's where there would be some cause for concern. She should stop soon. I think it might be a little inappropriate since it's a son and not a daughter... but that's just my own personal opinion. If you bring it up with her, which I wouldn't suggest, be careful. You'll be treading some deep waters there.

It's very normal at three. Children won't see anything wrong unless you plant the idea in their heads. When I had stop sharing a bath with my mum I would often sit beside the bath and talk to her while she was bathing. My mother would never let me into the bathroom or bath with her if she had her period though. That's understandable. Never with my Dad. I don't know at what age he stopped getting changed in front of me. I was old enough to remember he did but I have very early memories. My mother would still strip buck naked with me in the room despite my objections.

It is perfectly normal for a mother and her child/children to bathe together. My mother used to do it with my sister and I. Sometimes it is just more convenient to do it that way. I do it my 6 moth old son. He loves playing with the shower while we are in there. He did not like the water before but now that he sees mommy in it and I try and make it fun for him he loves it. Only a person with a perverse mind would think anything of it.

I take showers with both my daughter (3 and 6 months) its a lot more convenient lol and they said also take showers with their dad, not our three year old since she was 2a and a half and slipped and grabbed him to catch herself XD but there's nothing more natural when your a parent and once you have your own you'll see there's nothing odd about it. I took showers with my mom till I was 8 lol

Normal. Obviously at puberty, things are going to be a bit different and it will no longer be acceptable or comfortable. Plus, as a child, there's going to be nothing sexual about it. And if you or your girlfriend suddenly tell him that it is strange or wrong, only then will he begin to feel that it is out of the ordinary.

Yeah, I'd say that's normal. He's reaching the age when it should probably stop though, soon.

I never bathed or showered with my father, ever. I did with my brother, when I was still a baby, iI don't think we did after age 1. I would bathe with my mother sometimes, until around 5 or so.

yea its normal. my mom raised me alone and we had some tough times so to save on water bill I bathed with her. I was little so it wasn't weird I don't even remember what she looked like. its her kid. to her its just adorable I'm pretty sure she doesn't find it weird at all.

my little brother can't figure out our bathroom (it's really difficult), and he's 8. I still help bathing him sometimes. Therefore I can't see anything weird in a mother and her three year old son showering together
