Why is my pinky toe black and brittle?

It's been like this for as long as I could remember, also my big toes a scratchy looking. I've always been insecure about my toes. My boyfriend has never seen my feet with out nail polish on. I don't wear nail polish all the time and dot get my feet done all the time. This summer I've only been to the nail salon twice.

You have toenail fungus, the black is the fungus that's got trapped under the nail and the skin, it can present it's self as a black dot on the toes too, i had a black dot on one of my toes before it spread into full toenail fungus, there is a few types but i have the type that looks white and makes your nails all crumbly, with any toenail fungus it quickly turns into athletes foot too, best solution is get that little toenail removed and then ask for some toenail fungus stuff that you paint on the nails and just walk around barefoot letting it dry, although i've been doing the same with vapur rub but it's still not gone away...

If you didn't say it's always been like that I would have thought it was just where someone stood on you and blood got caught in the nail bed. This can take a very long time to grow out. The other option is some nail infection. I'd suggest going to the doctor to get specific treatment for it. If you want to try your look yourself there are loads of over the counter fungal nail treatments. Just go to the pharmacy and ask for the best treatment. If it's a fungal infection you'd want to treat it before you pass it to other nails and other people.

Check for thickening of the nail too as this can indicate a fungal infection.

Soak your feet in warm water with a little bleach added? If it's under the toenail, it could be a fungal infection. A toenail fungal infection can take a very long time to heal, so you might want to see a doctor.

I hope you mean your nails, not your actual toe! It could have died? Have you not seen a doctor to ask about it?

Your shoes must be too short--the nail is getting constantly banged against the toe of the shoe. This happens a lot if women wear heels all day.
