Why and what causes my Toe nail to be like this?

The size and shape or the thickness? Because the thickness could be fungus. But even micrograms to your toes (through poor circulation or as simple as wearing poor fitting shoes) can cause this. You're feet don't look unhealthy so it's probably the latter.

I'm unusual tall and I grew fast so I have hammer toes. Can I say that it caused them? Not exactly. Wearing g poor fitting shoes can cause them. But tall people are more likely to develop them.

Either a yeast infection, or a nail fungus, both easily rectified.

Some dumb responses about protein. Like the majority, I believe that it is fungal-related. Toe fungus needs to be taken seriously. My FIL has it bad and they told him if he did not apply any cream to his toe nails they would have to amputate his toe. You should consider taking a pair of clean socks and change them when you get a break. I also would buy some foot powder to keep your feet dry. Oh and only use socks that are cotton.

Usually this would occur due to lack of proteins, minerals in your body but don't worry to much it does get heal after sometime.
