Seems a bit intrusive, dictatorial, and objectifying as if her beauty is the most important thing about her.

Depends on the gal:

- if she's quite vain/insecure then likely as she'll be taken in on the backhanded compliment on her looks

- if she has a healthy self-esteem then likely she'll be p*ssed off at the implied demand on your part telling her what she should/shouldn't do with her body and it's not out of concern for her well-being or health but because of her looks

It's sort of like a compliment with an insult.

Of course, people know smoking is bad for them but she's going to feel like she is an instant turn off because of her smoking habits.

If you want to give someone a compliment...just give it to them.

There's no need to dig in to talk about a personal habit that they have.

They might find that offensive and completely overlook the compliment.

I'd actually be really pissed off if someone said this to me. What I do is none of their business, and looks have nothing to do with smoking. Not a good idea.

i see it as your basically telling them that you don't find smoking attractive, and if theyre smoking, they could potentially put two and two together and feel very awkward! I donno, that's just my opinion

Someone said that to me once, and it pissed me the f*** off. Like I started smoking when I was 12, are you saying my prettiness should make it easier to quit? If so, please tell me how to more effectively use this gift. Smoking is also intertwined with a lot of other things, like my friends that I met because I smoked, for instance. It symbolises a lot more than just a cigarette, it's a big part of my whole lifestyle. And I don't want to be too pretty for that lifestyle.

But that's just me.

Smokers generally don't like being told that it's unhealthy because they already know it is and people often tell them to stop ... even tho you have the compliment of hey you're really pretty it's also like saying but what your doing is gross
