So, are you a philosopher based on this article?
What's your OWN definition of a philosopher?
Based on this article, I'm definitely one. Hahaha. :)
1) No awe... I just enjoy the darkness, cool breeze, and the sounds of the night... I do check out the stars, planets, meteor showers, etc. but more often check out the cycles of the moon.
2) No, they would have tried to delete my ass already, I know too much. I do like the movies though.
3) Basically...
4) Yep.
5) Yep.
6) Yep.
7) Ehhh it's useful, but I wouldn't say beautiful. It's a fabrication of the human mind and at times quite ridiculous, so much so that many real mathematicians loose their marbles and get all mopey when their fictitious world starts crumbling around them to which the only logical response is to commit hara kiri.
8) No. Get a library card. What kind of philosopher would you be if you just sat in a class and ate what they fed you. Some free thinker you are.
9) Nah I pretty much had that figured out by the time I was 5.
10) Sounds great, but looking at my wall above me I think I'd want to build my ideas as well. There's all these hand drawn schematics of machines and systems pinned to my board. Thinking is great, creating and building is so much better. *Rushes off to grab welder*
1. I'm rarely in awe, and I rarely look at the stars, but existence is really something!
2. I like the Matrix as an action move, nothing else. I'd rather watch some deep Shaolin Kung Fu movie.
3. I do not like small talk and gossip.
4. I don't yet know the nature of reality. That's something I'm still trying to find.
5. I'm very different from most people, but I've gotten better at being normal.
6. Yes! I want to know myself better!
7. I didn't like math until I had this great teacher, and now, math is just, pretty cool when it's easy.
8. I think world religion, philosophy, and ethics can be taught in school. I went to a religious school, and yes, we had philosophy and ethics. But as a philosopher, nothing is a waste of time. There's a reason for everything.
9. What are we here for? Why are we on GAG? Why do we have problems?
10. I'm a bird, and I want to fly. I want to dream!
Actually, I'm not really a philosopher. Modern day philosophers and ethics class debate all day, instead of getting things done, in my opinion.
"Modern day philosophers and ethics class debate all day, instead of getting things done, in my opinion. " So true!
Hehe:)
In my opinion, ethics is not just about talking about all the different views out there. That's just confusing. Do you think there is a single or double answer to each/most ethical question out there? I was taught virtue in school. Basically, how to respect people, be a good citizen, etc. Unfortunately, I feel people don't learn these things much nowadays.
I think they don't learn these things AT ALL! Hahaha
Oh, thanks for choosing my answer:)
:)
1.yes
2. never seen it (too busy staring at he stars?) but it sounds like an interesting movie..
3. yes yes yes, I'm about to sell a piece of furniture to someone cl right now, I am dreading the hi how are you, this will look great in your home, have a good day, it'll be a short convo but its fake, I hate it. I hated every retail job I had because of this.lol
4. sure
5.yawn uh huh yes.
6.yup
7.yes like the patterns in nature (sunflowrers, etc)
8.yes, schools neglect a lot though so it wouldn't actually be the top on my list..
9.haha yep.. try every second... always analyzing trying to figure out deeper meanings.. I wish I could shut it off actually.lol
10.yes... who wouldn't think this way?
I think everyone with a brain is a philosopher:)

I would say if you are a renown professor with many publications to your credit, then you can call yourself a philosopher (though they probably wouldn't and rant about the semantics or something). I think a mathematician, philosopher, or any "title" with a subject in it requires you to dedicate your life to the subject, with it being your number one passion.
Liking a certain movie, daydreaming often, having broad academic interests, being introverted and wanting a job where you can sit and talk to like-minded people in a coffee shop doesn't make you a philosopher. That sounds like a good of college students...maybe that's why they act like they've got everything figured out LOL
I am always searching for the meaning of life and I don't think life should be about just working getting married etc.. there has to be something bigger
I am interested in math and a search for knowledge so I can keep improving my self
i would love to get paid just for thinking but I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in that :D
:)
I don't need to read the entirety of your link to answer this question... without question I'm a philosopher. What makes me a philosopher? Abstract thoughts of the greatness that surrounds us the predisposition that reality is perception and open to individual interpretation.
My own definition of a philosopher is someone who lives to think.
Based on that article I'm definitely not a philosopher, since only number six rings true to me somewhat.
My definition of a philosopher is a person who thinks and develops theories of abstract things involving, for example, ethics, human nature, self-awareness etc.
Ok the link doesn't work anymore :(
BUT, YOU tell me about me being a philosopher and why you think so ;) :D Guess you can do that pretty well :D :D
I'll do my talking after that ;)
Well, I sure can. I can even fly, but that's another story :P
You have theories regarding everything in life. They are made purely by your own observation, experience, readings, etc... I like that you have a very unique mind of your own. I have one too so that's why I can spot one ;-) You have interesting views on pretty much everything and it's always a pleasure when you share it with me and I'm sure it is how others feel too. :) Hence why you're a philosopher. :)
ha ha thank you my girl :) reason more to thank you cause it's a fact that most of us especially those on sites such as GAG consider ourselves philosophers but what matters is when someone recognizes you as one :)
Philosophy is not about looking into the sky, staring at the stars and wondering nor is it about what you think of yourself.
It's about free thinking of the past, present & future devoid of any fixations including not alone religion and similar but also of the fact that we are human.
Philosophy covers absolutely the mystical, known, unknown and past, current etc behavioral aspects of everything in nature.
You have one fixation and philosophy becomes limited. Having said that however, each recognized philosopher has a discipline that he excels in but it's not a fixation, he/she merely concentrates on what interests them.
A philosopher most time is considered ludicrous in his lifetime because he speaks beyond what a...
... common man can understand. He generally attains prominence after his lifetime. The world however, has opened up much more than what it was so it's a different scenario now :)
Not all those who have an open mind can be philosophers though chances are high but w/o the ability to express even great minds die w/o being recognized :)
I LOVE your explanation, Raj. :))
And YOU said you'll take your turn but you did NOT! Just saying! :P Okay, okay...I'm not a philosopher...but I'm still awesome :D
Hey I did take my turn but couldn't answer according to the link cause it won't work now :D
BUT thank you THANK YOU :) :) you ARE awesome :)
And HECK NO you aren't a mere philosopher, you are the INSPIRATION to a philosopher. Do you realize how important inspiration is for a philosopher, poet, inventor, scientist... you name it! none of these would exist w/o you :D
I'm an inspiration to whom? THAT is the question - knowmeyourself (not Hamlet) :P
To me for one and for quite a few out here I notice ;) :D
Hamlet was a character inspired by an inspiration someone found, YOU my dear girl ARE an 'inspiration' :D
We've only been talking for two weeks now. How am I an inspiration? You're trying to charm me, Raj!!!
Inspiration, love, attachment etc is not bound by time & other factors else the world would be a monotonous bore. Nor can such things be explained :)
I say what I mean, I never flatter for the sake of charming or gaining any favors - I've repeated that many a times in 2 weeks ;) :D :D
Well, you do :P :P lol
5, 8 and 10 maybe not but the rest yes. I often wonder about the realism of our lives and the significance of one person and all of us. I love the movie Vanilla Sky and it makes me ponder life and death and a human's purpose on earth. Some people may claim that they do not think of most of the things on that list but we are humans and all or most of us do. I do not think that sociopaths think of such things but the rest of us think of at least half of the ten listed. 5 stars Miss Sally.
:)
I don't agree with one because I know the nature of reality.
I agree with 2 because the matrix is awesome.
Small talk is retarded.
I don't agree with 4 because I already figured out the nature of reality.
i agree with the rest, except 8,9 and 10
First priority? no.
I know why were are here.
10? no, that's just narcissism.
I think most people would be a philosopher based on that. Anyone can be a philosopher, some of the time. A philosopher is someone that wonders about the deeper questions in life and tries to answer them. Unless you get famous for it, most people don't think of you as a philosopher, but the term could be applied to anyone.
I've always had a great interest in the Greek philosophers, My favorites are Democrates and Testicles.
lol I think you laugh in your sleep. :P
Fantastico! :)
I've actually laughed myself awake once (I was dreaming John C. McGinley was a stand-up comedian).
The list looks fancy and shallow. To answer your question, yes I am into philosophy and pursue the same. Who's a philosopher according to me? Anyone who tries to interpret life in their own perception.
According to that list, I am one. But that's not a very good list.
Yes and partially yes to almost all of them.
