What's the difference between Autodesk Maya and AutoCAD?

Can I do floor plans on Autodesk Maya just like the one's done on AutoCAD?

i personally like autocad much better then autodesk maya, I had to create a floor plan for my AP drafting class in hs and we had the option between a few programs and I found autocad to be the easiest.

but the thing is I found A BUNCH of Autodesk Maya 2009 and 2010

and I was wondering if it's the same? or is it completely different? and why do I need a license? I thought I could just type in the serial number but it says I must register?

I also found a bunch of Office 2007 and I installed that also, and it only asked to type in the key and I did and TADA! I have all the stuffs now! :D! FREE! :p! but why won't it do it for AutoDesk Maya? whyyyyyy :[!

was it a free download? sometime those program get your hopes up with the free programming and then it tricks you by making you buy an access code. that's my guess on the maya

Nope. I have a full box of CD's and serial numbers and codes.

One is a graphics design software, the other is an engineering drafting software. Maya is used for stuff like game design and animated movies. AutoCAD is used for designing a new machine part.

It's possible to do that in that software, but you'll have to learn how obviously...

AutoCAD is for drafting

AutoDesk Maya is for modeling. I used to do it when I was in motion graphics...man my head hurts from just thinking about it...

Yeah, I see... but I was hoping that there was a way to actually create floor plans on autodesk maya as well :[ it sucks!

and if it hurts your head just thinking about it, I suppose you don't enjoy it? haha :D!

lol I loved it it was a ton of fun to make all that stuff. I was going to goto collage for motion graphics but decided not too.
