Was bestiality common in Ancient times? Because there are like rules against it in the Old testament and stuff and I saw something about it on H2

We have many accounts from the Greek and Roman pagan mythology. Interestingly we have contradicting accounts from northern tribes, e.g. the Western German tribes, where a strict monogamy was the usual way of life and anything outside of it, adultery, homosexuality, bestiality, was punished by death.

We also have accounts from similar punishments from Ancient China. Little to no account, though, we have from the Americas, but this might also be due to the lack of ability to completely decipher their writing systems.

Therefore I deem it untenable to state that it was more common "back in the day" than it was nowadays. Scientific evidences are too rare to make any clear statement or even formulate a hypothesis (let alone a theory).

Yes. Sexual repression and the isolation of those times led to many alternatives, like sex with animals. It was easier for some and accessible.

Yes, it was very common in Roman times. But a friend of mine, who is a gynecologist, told me that it's very common for people nowadays, in America, to have sex with inter-species. A couple of weeks ago, this cop in Florida was caught having sex with his pit-bull in his backyard. He was put in jail for animal cruelty. People who do that in this day and age are very sick. There's no need for it and it spreads diseases.

actually if you care to check the most common animal for women to have sex with is a dog and dogs cannot spread STD's like a man can. the few cross platform diseases you can get from a dog (called zoonoses) do not require sexual contact at all. diseases like q-fever and brucellosis can be contracted by handling the dogs waste as well as by sexual contact. cats on the other hand carry feline aids and chlamydia

It probably was. You are born unto sin. It was like when I was reading about Abel and Cain in genesis, I was expecting to be a long story, brothers eating ice cream (not literally) and bang! First killed in the bible... I was like already? (5 years ago) you can only imagine. I think during Noah flood as well beasteality was common and angels sleeping with the daughter if men and etc... Hence Noah flood

in the days when the biblical texts concerning bestiality were written they thought a man's "seed" was placed into the woman's "vessel" and the seed "festered" and became a child. the bible also refers to bestial contact by a woman as causing "confusion". i guess even then women realized that rover got them off better than the man they were with and they did not get pregnant. the whole point of the religious taboo on bestiality is the sex didn't end in pregnancy so it was wrong.

just a side note: humans are not the only animals that participate in inter-species sexual relationships

it was common from the beginning of time to present. people just never admit to it. with disease and sexual violence as common as it is it is no wonder bestiality is on the rise in this world. it puts a whole new spin on "this world is going to the dogs" doesn't it

Bestiality is a lot more common than you'd like to think it is. I don't think it was "more" common than it is now. I've heard of many instances, particularly in the Middle East, where bestiality is quite common. If you've ever heard of 'Mr. Hands', you would also realize that it's not too far from home.

In short - no, I don't think bestiality is more or less common now than it was in ancient times.

In mythology? YES. In "real life" there aren't many accounts of it, so I'd assume it wasn't a massive deal.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. About two weeks ago, I saw, on my friend's Facebook, the picture of this 60 year old lady naked in her bed with a big dog under the sheets cuddling with her. She's never been married nor does she like men...or women for that matter. Yuck!!! I feel like barfing just talking about it.
