Friend-zoning each other?

My guess is that if you are reading this, you are probably someone who has experienced in being in the friend-zone currently or have been in the past. Whether you have friend-zoned someone, or you yourself got friend-zoned or both.

I am a girl in the friend-zone who is also friend-zoning my best male friend. So in other words, we are friend-zoning each other and neither one of us wants to make the first step out of the constant circles we go around.

I can't really speak on his behalf about why he doesn't want to take a step out of 'the zone' apart from a few quotations I can use that he has said to me directly. But as for my reasoning(s), it's the constant "what if's"

What if we break up and can not remain as friends?
What if we are made for each other and do work out?
What if I regret NOT making the first move?
What if I DO regret making the first move? WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF.

Friend-zoning each other?

I'll be honest here, I either view him as a long-lost brother (although we've known each for 12 years, which is over half of our lives) or as someone I could see spending my life as my partner with and from the way he talks about us, he must be having a constant battle with his feelings towards me as well as my feelings towards him too.

Another reason is, I feel it would be too awkward or weird. Turning friendship into a relationship is a whole new turn, you get see a person like you have never seen them before. I am so used to seeing him as 'my friend', you get see a side of them from a different light. The crazy, chaotic, jealous, intimate and open side. Now I have had fantasies of being intimate with him I'm not going to lie, but maybe I might just be too scared to turn these fantasies into reality. What if (there it is again) I become disappointed that the fantasy didn't turn out exactly as I thought it would?

Friend-zoning each other?

The third reason, his past relationships. When I say relationships, I mean girlfriends and the girls he has got with. Having being friends with him for the last 12 years, he of course has had girlfriends and plenty of them (I cannot give an exact number on this) and have witnessed myself how he treats these girlfriends and the reason for them ending. Let me give you a subtle hint; he treats them well WHEN he sees them. He would rather spend time with his mates rather than his girlfriend. With his last girlfriend, he couldn't be bothered to meet up with her so he made up that he got rushed to hospital just to get out of meeting her, he met up with me that day instead. The code of a best friend is to support your best friend, if his girlfriend asks, I have to say he was at hospital. As a good best friend, I constantly persuaded him to go and SEE HER or at least tell her that he was too fucking lazy. Do I REALLY want to be in a relationship with someone who will lie to me to get out of seeing me? The answer to that is NO.

But then I think 'maybe it's not the relationship that was his issue, it was the person he's in a relationship with!'. But I'll leave the explanations for another time.
