Uncomfortable saying "I love you"

My boyfriend and I have been together almost 2 yrs. He isn't an emotional person and to an extent I've learned to accept that. When I tell him I love him he just nods at me. When I asked him about it his answer was "I just don't say it to anyone, even my family. It's who I am and I'm comfortable this way". I don't know if I can spend my life never knowing how he feels, which I've also asked him and he says I should know because he's still here. Is it stupid of me to let this bother me?

If he really loves you I would think that he would be comfortable with you enough to say it back--seems a bit harsh that he doesn't. In my opinon if it's that long a relationship and he hasn't said it, perhaps he's just hanging on to you for comfort, someone familiar until he finds someone who he might be comfortable enough to love and say it, and actually mean it. Perhaps he doesn't want to say it, with empty meaning because he respects you enough to not hurt you.

You aren't stupid. It would bother me too! His presence alone doesn't necessarily indicate love. (That doesn't mean it doesn't mean that in his view.) I'd ask him if his "comfort" with the way he is is important enough that it means more than your need to feel cared about and secure in your relationship.The answer will be illuminating.

If a guy is uncomfortable saying that, chances are he doesn't, sorry to say, despite if he thinks he does. I'm not a very emotional person, yet I still tell my family and my girl that I love them.

You really shouldn't settle for a guy that can't express his feelings, because obviously you want more than that.
