Being exclusive vs boyfriend/girlfriend title?

I've been dating this guy for a little over 3 months. Neither of us have seen anyone else and had the talk about being offically exclusive. That is where we are at right now. To confirm what that exactly means to him he said "we are not single, we are spoken for." I wanted to clear this up because to me once you're exclusive you're boyfriend and girlfriend. I let him know that and he said "boyfriend and girlfriend is the next step." I'm all about taking your time but I feel we are at the stage of being boyfriend and girlfriend. We spend as much time as we can with each other. He's met my family. We talk everyday. There would be nothing but the title change.

What do you think about this? What would be the best thing to say without nagging or pushing him away?

I forgot to note that I feel myself beginning to fall in love with him and before it felt like we were both feeling the same things but he's not as vocal anymore. He does not know that I feel this way because I don't feel he is there yet. I can't tell.

Sounds like he basically wants all the benefits that come with a relationship, mostly the sexual ones, minus responsibilities that may be included. Such as involving emotions and that kind of stuff.

He could also want to genuinely just take things slow. Be firm with asking him when he'll be ready, more or less, to take 'the next step' and make it official. That's not nagging; if you fail to be firm though, he could make you wait for that time indefinitely.

Well to me it looks like you have two choices. Accept the terms or see if he'll compromise. Though I personally don't understand the difference between being "exclusive" and being "boyfriend/girlfriend". They're the same thing.

Haha! That's funny and so true! What should I even say to him? Truth is I want him to want to me to be his girlfriend. If we are only seeing each other then I don't know why he's unable to take the next step. He's called me his girlfriend to people before.
