Is a 19 year old with a 29 year old too much of an age difference?

The younger one person is, the less okay this sort of age difference is. Like someone else said, if it's 29 and 39, that's fine -- both are adults who have had really lived, and can approach one another as equals.

But a 19-year-old is, I'm sorry to say, not that mature despite what the 19-year-old thinks. While it may be unfair, it makes an outsider ask: well, why can't the older person (a guy, I'm assuming) find someone their own age? Why are they going out with a child? Do they have some kind of unhealthy dominance thing going on here?

Look, maybe it'll work out in the short term, but you have to ask yourself if this is an **equal** relationship. Only then will it be healthy.

What if he didn't know she was only 19 and found out after they started liking each other? Girls that are 19 could seem like their 22 or 23 which in my opinion isn't a big gap at all.

Liking each other is one thing, but making it work is another. *Seeming* like they're 22-23 is not quite the same as *being* 22-23.

Of course there are always exceptions, but I'm just speaking from experience. I've been that 19-yr-old dating a much older man. It's a romantic idea, but the reality isn't always. Now that I'm firmly in my 20's, and still dating guys who are older, there's a huge difference. The balance between us is healthier.

I personally believe age is just a number and I would do it if it were me but you will have problems because he is over 21. He can't take you to bars and clubs with him, and it's not fair to bail on his friends, and in turn it may breed mistrust and suspicion in you if he goes to clubs and bars without you. I also agree with some of the other answers: you are still developing emotionally. Your brain doesn't stop developing until around age 25, that's 6 years of growth yet to go during which you WILL change in how you think feel and act..

All that should matter is if you love the person. Age should make no difference. I have been with a guy for about a year now and we are very happy together. We are planning on getting married. He is 39 and I am 24. I think older guys are very much more mature than guys my own age or younger. Especially since the older ones like my fiance has a stable job and knows what he wants to do in life, he's not like most guys and has their head still stuck in the sand. Good Luck! I go by this: Take his age (29) divide by 2 = 14.5. And add 7 to it. 21.5 years or older is the more common accepted age to be with at his age. In the end though its all about you two.

Yes, those 10 years are like a whole generation. It's not going to work. It's differnt say with 39 and 49..

I don't think that it will work out, because at that age, there is a lot of emotional development that is still being done, and the difference in maturity may become an issue.

I say if there is enough love, it shouldn't matter. But you must know, when there is a large age difference, there could be some difficulties.

yeah...for the most part you're in different phases of your life. But true love knows no age, but that's not very common in my experience

yes! the gap is large...especially it seems larger between these ages because there are more than 1 transition stage in between (finish high school, finish college, find job, etc.)

if it were 29 and 39, I would say its normal...

Please, Anna Nicole Smith married a guy who was over 60 years older, sure he was a billionare, so money can reduce the age difference, does he have a nice home,car, credit card it just makes it so much easier.
