My boyfriend is obsessed with video games, what should I do?

I think he's addicted. Throughout the day, I go to classes (I'm in college), go play my sport, and work out. When I get back to the dorms, he's always playing video games so I leave him alone and let him play.

After a few more hours, I come back and he's still playing video games, so I watch netflix and wait for him to be done. When I talk to him, he ignores me.

I'm getting really angry and my feelings are hurt. The only time he ever pays attention to me is when we're in bed together and he wants sex.

What should I do about this?

It's a good thing when people find things that they like. Hiking, watching tv, reading books, all of these things are fine. But like any hobby, they can dominate your life and start becoming an unhealthy priority. When I had first started college, I also really liked video games. I only played them for a few hours a day, after work, but this was important time I should have been spending with my girlfriend who also was in school, had work, and scholarship programs to work on. She actually dumped me because I was more focused on the games than her. After that I woke up. I had to set the priorities of what is important and what comes second. To this day I still play video games, but only when it's my time. You need to set boundaries with him just like my girlfriend had done in the past. She knew that I liked video games and knew taking them completely away from me would make me unhappy. Relationship are about happiness. So this is what you do, you need to talk to your boyfriend and set up some healthy regulations on the games. Like he can only play for a few hours a day, or only when you two aren't doing anything active together, like if you're watching Netflix. Remember to be realistic with him, but not a pushover. He may not even want to change, then you really need to ask yourself if you want to be with someone who has video games over you as a priority. You aren't some sex toy that he can play with when he's bored. Stand up for yourself and work on having a better relationship. Only then will you both be happy, because I know he's not really happy with this lifestyle. I know, I use to live it.

Just leave him already. He's obviously only keeping you around for the sex and nothing more, as he cares more about playing video games than dating you and understanding you and getting to know you as a person. If you both aren't attending the same college, just "ghost" him and drop and stop all contact for good. You can't make him change and give up playing video games, he has to realize how this is negatively affecting the relationship the two of you have together, and even if that meant he had to learn it the hard way when you ditched him for good.

You're young. You have plenty of options and opportunities. Addiction is pretty bad for a mutual relationship. It can pass on to your children as well (if you plan on having any with this guy). I don't care if it's not illegal, computer addiction is just as bad as drug addiction. I've seen it destroy lives. It's a sign of depression or anxiety as well. So, if you don't want to break up with him, he needs to get a cure. Try therapy. Give it a year. If it starts to show improvement, give it a chance. If it doesn't, take off and run the opposite direction.
I think anyone's life should be a balanced mixture of work, sleep, education, hobbies, socializing, and rest. If it's too extreme in either of the areas, it's not good.

well, my man and i are both gamers, so this is a non-issue for us. we could be playing 2 separate games and we'd still talk to each other and/or cuddle.

-how many hours does your man spend gaming (per day)?
-does he have a job or go to school?
-does he skip work, school, or social events to play games?
-does he have other social contacts (besides you) or hobbies?
-have you told him how you feel?

chances are that gaming is his form of stress relief and he's just a normal guy. but, if you've told him and he still ignores you, then by all means break up with him.

So is he a college student also? If not, then its obvious he doesn't have a job. Or if its his day off he could of just wanted to relax his video games. Sometimes when a guy has had a rough day they usually just want to play their videogames and not be bothered. Its best not to bug him during that time because it will only start an argument. So wait until he finishes then ask him about it.

My younger brother is addicted to video games. Right until my parents took them away. He would get seriously pissed if you asked to do anything because it was time away from his video games. He would get pissed if you even asked him a question. Because then he would have to pause the game and that wastes his precious video game time. My brother is 13. If your boyfriend acts this way, you either need to have a serious talk or break up.
