Why does my boyfriend make me hate playing video games?

I'll be playing a multiplayer like pictionary on the computer (not everyone has a steady hand or drawing tablet.) And he'll be making one negative comment after another while he's playing a FPS. I tend to keep my damn comments about how he gets killed in the stupidest ways to myself (like come on Destiny 2 crucible control. You honestly didn't see that dude peek round the corner with a fucking giant ass sword all because you had shotgun ammo?) Yet no matter what game I have going it's "aw come on you died again" or "wow that looks like shit. That person should just give up hahahaha" wtf man. Let me do me and fuck right off. Am I wrong in getting annoyed or turned off of video games? Does he secretly hope I lose all interest in games so I'll be waiting at his beck and call? What the fuck gives?

Sounds like he's just being a butt-head. He's probably doing it with innocent intention; just part of who he is. Maybe calmly talking to him about it and how it makes you feel could make things better. Otherwise, it's just who he is.

I know I have mentioned it calmly in the past but he takes it personally and twists everything I say for the night into a fight.

I think he's just a douche and no it's fine to feel that way. I would just ignore him if you can.

I have tried to but found that the harder I ignore the unwanted behavior, the louder and more persistent he is.

Well how important is gaming? And is he like this outside of this?

For me, I'm a gamer by heart. Love to play FPS, RPGs, MMORPGs, strategy/puzzle, etc. He's a gamer/graffiti artist. I feel I rely on them a little more due to my mental health issues. Outside of gaming it tends to be anything he is good at he flaunts and tends to harshly criticize those who "aren't on his level". Though this negativity does grate against my sense of defending others, I do try and bite my tongue so that I don't show my canines so to speak.

Well I would just play games when he isn't around, if that's possible. I would also tell him how you feel. However, if his behavior starts to get toxic or worse with more than just gaming, I would tell you to start thinking about leaving him. Do remember though, I am only a stranger and you know yourself better than anyone.
