Would you stay with your partner if they became physically deformed?

If your partner sustained an injury that significantly affected their physical appearance, would you stay with them? What are your limits/conditions? Would you stay for your current partner if you have one?
Bonus question: Would you be able to be with someone who was already physically deformed prior to meeting?

(Pleasantly) surprised by the results. Acid/Fire burns are very hard to look at, especially if they're to the face. Personally, I would stay even though it would admittedly take time to adjust to their new appearance. But I expected a lot more people to say that they would leave, especially if their partner wasn't "the one".

Hard to be completely honest as I've never been in a situation like this.

But I guess it depends. If I'm married to her, or even if I've been with her a few years or long enough to know I love her, and it's not just prolonged feelings of lust then without question I'd stay, no matter what.

Yes looks are important, but if I'm in love with someone, I'm in love with ALL of them, especially the parts that you can't see or touch. Building a relationship with someone you love deeply is so incredibly valuable that no amount of disfigurement can destroy it. And let's face it, if you two grow old together your looks will eventually fade anyway.

Now if I wasn't sure I loved her or if the relationship was in it's infancy then It'd be worth pondering. If I still wanna have kids is she so disfigured that she wouldn't be able to anymore? And if she couldn't, would that foster regret and misguided blame in future? In essence I feel like it would force me to fast track how I REALLY feel about her, cause honestly it's hard not to be distracted by a pretty face. No matter how hard you try to dig deeper and see the real beauty in a woman's character.

Yep. If my girlfriend lost a limb or something from a car accident I would still be with her supporting her all the way and helping her regain her confidence. What kind of man would I be if I said "ew" and walked away because of that? That's beyond cringe in my opinion.

It takes a lot for me to commit to someone, but when I do, I actually value it. Commitment actually means something to me. I'm not telling my girlfriend a bunch of sappy cringe shit to make her smile all the time. That's all fake, and those types of people would probably be the first to dip when the shit hits the fan. I keep these types of things to myself. She already knows I got her back.

I'm loyal by nature , so I'd use the opportunity to put my loyalty and love to the test. It's not until you're faced with dire situations or circumstances that you see the strength of someone's love and loyalty. I'd never turn my back on someone I love. I'd stay with him

When I fall in love with a guy, it's his personality that I fall in love with. So he'd still be the guy I fell in love with. If he'd been that severely disfigured when I met him , then I probably wouldn't date him , because it's a guys appearance that initially attracts me .

One of the greatest tests of love was that of Dana Reeves , Chistopher Reeves' ( superman) wife. After he became severely disabled and paralyzed from the neck down, she stayed with him. Her love for him never wavered. She became his carer. But, would she have gotten with him if he'd been that severely disabled when she first met him. Who knows, but I think it's highly unlikely. I can't imagine her dating him , and giving up her life to become his carer.

It depends how that person use to treat me prior the deformation, however depends on how much you love the person, I'll stay and be there for him and help him get through this because the face you see now it's not the face you use to see before so it's important you love and cherish your loved one.

Considering my first ever long term boyfriend had a physical deformity, probably a lot wouldn't bother me. I'm not going to lie and say it would be easy to date someone with severe acid burns or severe burns to the face, but I wouldn't just say point blank that I wouldn't. Never say never.

He was born with his bones fused together in his left arm. He had lots of surgery when he was younger to try and improve the situation, but it basically left him with a limp basically useless scarred arm and two fused fingers. He hated it, but it was never a big deal to me.

I believe in true love but true love requires attraction. I would still love them, but I would no longer be attracted to them or want to have sex with them.

People already stop being good-looking as they age. So if your partner becomes physically disfigured in some way, it's like they became old 30 or 40 years too early.

I wouldn't be a dick about it though. a lot of guys would break up with their girlfriend and then make fun of her for how she looks now. I don't see what they achieve from this. I would leave her, but would do it in the most loving and civil way possible.

Depends. If it was a reflection of his personality, probably not. If he happened to gain weight just because that's how his body is built and he wasn't exercising or eating properly at the time but plans to get back on track, I honestly don't mind. I don't think I would leave them, but it would make looking at them less pleasant and also negatively affect my sexual attraction towards them. Like you said burns can be difficult to look at.

Probably not. The only reason why I would stay in the first scenario is because I have already formed an emotional attachment to them through shared memories. However if they are a stranger then I wouldn't have any attachment to them and unless they had something about their personality that made them seem incredibly unique , it just wouldn't seem worth it.

Burn/acid attack: It depends on where it is. If she got burned on her arm or down her side, that wouldn't affect my attraction to her. However, if it screwed up her face, it would.

Amputation: I really wouldn't be bothered. Again, it wouldn't affect my attraction toward her.

This is an example of a burn victim (also an amazing story to read). No matter how little appearance matters to you, this type of injury is incredibly difficult to look at. Even more so if it's someone you love. It does take adjusting, for both the victim and their family.
