Can friends of the opposite sex hold hands?

And I don't mean if one is gay or a lesbian. Can platonic friends hold hands. Or is this more of a couple concept?

I think that is possible, as long as both are okay with it. Platonic friends can "pretend" to be a couple if they wanted to by holding hands and other people might not be able to tell the difference.
